Published on 07/24/11 at 04:32Compressor single channel analog input signal is either XLR or Jack connector 6.35 mm in both cases symmetric. The output is XLR symmetrical. But it also offers another Jack asymmetric specifically and completely separated from the balanced output. Add to that, an entry called "Detector Input" that allows (even to her) to use a different signal as the input to control the VCA board, and a last connection via 6.35 mm Jack for connecting a second 160 for use in stereo mode.
As for the possible setting, it offers the bare minimum of what is expected on this type of machine, namely a set threshold levels and output gain. But it compensates with a quality and professional architecture. Added to this a key switching the "Soft Knee", a function with a smoother entry into compression, that's it.
UTILIZATION
Simple and rational, more thanks to the two bar graphs large "level" switchable input / output and "gain reduction", the display of the compression performed by the Dbx is a great visual comfort. It should be added that none of the knobs is notched ..
SOUND QUALITY
Without particular coloration despite the transformer option I had taken when buying to have a real galvanic isolation, which enters the compressor as is apparent, with only less than dynamic. A lag close to nil and pumping almost inaudible, a compression which takes place without adverse effect on the frequencies ..
Regardless of the compression ratio and the source is treated as the result will always be optimum and it does not alter Dbx your job, which is a high quality.
OVERALL OPINION
It is a real working tool, simple but not simplistic, to do a good job. The sound remains clean until the end. Of course, since it allows no time setting attack and release, do not ask the artistic treatment as with a BSS DPR 402, for example, but it was not designed for it .. Compress without adding anything to it's function.
