Fohhn PS-9 Subwoofer

Fohhn has announced the launch of the new active PS-9 subwoofer.
Using Fohhn’s DPC (Differential Pressure Control) technology, the PS-9 is designed to combine an electronically controlled 21-inch speaker with an integrated 8500 watt (peak power) Class D DSP amplifier.

The speaker has an excursion of 60 mm and an impedance of 0.5 ohms, generating a power output equivalent to four high-powered 18-inch woofers. The speaker membrane excursion is permanently controlled by the DPC technology, Fohhn says.

This is designed to generate high pressure levels and produce a tight, controlled bass response, making the PS-9 suitable for larger venues and stadiums requiring higher levels of bass, according to Fohhn. The unit’s wooden housing is finished with a polyurea coating to withstand daily wear and tear. Equipped with DSP processors, the PS-9 can be operated and controlled via the Fohhn Net network.

The subwoofer can be teamed with a range of other Fohhn speakers including the new PT-8 compact line array system, the company says.

The PS-9 is expected to be available during summer 2009, and will be distributed in the UK by Systems Workshop.

Pricing to be announced.
