Topic Why buy guitar racks?
In my studio at home im all about saving money (i'm a student) so i thought id share with any other thrifty folks out there how i went about making my simple but effective guitar rack:

-Take piece of wood 3x4cm crossection or close to it.
-The length of the wood will depend on your hanging space and how many holders you want. mine is about 1.5 meters long and has 4 holders
-To work out the length and to decide where the holders will be on the rack. Make markings (on the 3cm side) at regular spacings. i spaced mine at around 40cms this is plenty for most guitars.
-Now on either side of each marking you should make two more markings around 4.5 - 5.0 cms from each other.
-Next get some real long screws maybe around 8 cm.
-At each of your sets of markings you will install 2 screws, 1 at each of the markings that are 5cm apart, screw them in on a slight angle downwards and inwards towards the other. The result should be a bunch of crude guitar hooks.
-Next take some electrical tape and heavily wrap each screw so they do not scratch the neck of your guitars, wrap tightly so the tape stretches.
-and now you pretty much done making the rack and it should look a little somthing like this (excuse the diagram)

Ok, how you attach this to your wall depends on your walls i guess. Personally i have a small wooden ledge that runs around my walls at curtain height so i just put it on top of that and screwed it down with 3 screws (i drilled out the holes in the rack first so as not to split the wood with the screw)

I take no responsibility for dropped guitars or other damage. If you can afford $5000 guitars you can afford $100 guitar racks for them. That said if you do it well you shouldnt have troubles and there are many ways of improving on my design with better materials etc. But i trust my rack with my guitars and thats enough for me.
