Thread Hello I'm new and need advice about setting up home studio with laptop

Hi there,

I'm new and am wanting to replace my PC home studio setup with a laptop.

Currently I am using Cakewalk Homestudio 2002 on a desktop PC with a ADSP24 sound card. I have a digital piano connected to the MIDI in/out.

I am now looking to replace the PC with a laptop - will most standard laptop do or are there any specific requirements I should be looking at as to the built-in soundcard etc? I want to be able to playback the finished songs in Cakewalk while recording the mix onto an audio track (for later export as WAV file) at the same time.

As to the MIDI in/out, will I be able to get a MIDI to USB connector/converter to connect my piano to the laptop?

I'd probably forget about a built in soundcard, and get a USB or Firewire interface that does audio AND midi.
