« Hollow bodied version of the T Classic »
Published on 05/14/11 at 16:41The Tom Anderson T Classic is Tom's take on the Telecaster. While the guitar comes with a plethora of options to choose from, this one is actually a hollow bodied guitar, so its tonal characteristics take a bit of a departure from a normal tele. These hollowed chambers are actually not detectable by the naked eye like some of the oldschool teles of yesteryear with the F holes.
UTILIZATION
These guitars are amazingly well put together, and they almost play themselves. The fretwork on these things is just impeccable. The necks come with tons of options that all feel wonderful, too. Tom Anderson is using a unique 2 bolt wedge joint that actually is more stable than nearly any other neck joint out there on the market. The wedge that he makes means it doesn't shift like most other necks do. The coolest feature is actually the Switcheroo system which really opens up tons of possibilities in terms of tone.
SOUNDS
The Hollow T Classic is a unique take on the tele. First of all, Tom's normal T Classic is a little more hifi and clearer than most other teles out there. It's like a modern man's tele with the spank and even more clarity than before. However, the hollow chambers in this guitar add these really complex overtones. The bass becomes a little softer and resonates more. The midrange is really awesome, and the top end gets turned into this really cool, pleasant treble. It's something that you have to hear to really understand. Combine that with Tom's own pickups, and you got one hell of a guitar.
OVERALL OPINION
The Hollow T Classic isn't for everyone, but it's a really cool sounding guitar. It reminds me of a more modern and hifi version of the old Slimline teles. These are a bit harder to sell on the used market since not everyone wants a chambered guitar, so if resale is of utmost importance, you might want to take that into consideration. I recommend scoping out eBay for the best deals on these guitars.
