« Gainmaster but not much more gain »

Published on 10/29/11 at 15:25

This a cool little amp that is a single channel amp but it really acts like a two channel amp with the lead gain. See this amp has a regular channel with a gain and then you have another gain control knob that can be activated by the foot switch. This will enable you to get to different tones or channels. Very cool feature for a small little watt amp head.

This amp is the same feature wise as the black Gain Master only this comes in a custom black tolex covering. You get all the same features and control but just the combo version of the head amp. The amp is a fine amp and for the money it may be too much for most folks.

SOUNDS

This amp has a cool voicing for a classic rock tone or a pop or country tone. This amp has the 6v6 power tubes which gives it a nice crunch and a great clean These tubes are the best of both worlds for cleans channels and crunch channels.

The gain is a mild crunch and it gives you a great classic rock overdrive that brings out the natural character in the user's playing style. Use this amp with any decent guitar will give you a solid tone that will accompany any style music that you play. I like this amp with either a Fender Stratocaster or a Fender Telecaster. Even a good Gibson Les Paul will sing with this amp. Basically whatever the guitar has will come through this amp. If you have a terrible sounding guitar this amp will bring that out into public eye. It definitely shows the nature of the guitar in all its glory or in all of its failure.

OVERALL OPINION

At new these amps come in right at around $2600. Kind of expensive for an amp but it does sound pretty good. This is an amp that takes on the nature of the guitarist style so either it will show you how good you sound or how much work you need to do on your skills. You can find them used all day long. This would be a better option to try it out and see if you like it and if not you can dump it for about the same price.
