Published on 01/07/13 at 14:28The MOTU 4 PRE is a 4 channel Firewire preamp interface. You can use it with Mac’s and PC computers, I have used it with a simple DELL laptop and my Macbook and it works great with both operating systems. You can connect it to your computer from either the USB port or the FireWire port. That is what makes this interface so diverse. There are 4 different mixes on this interface, the line outs, phones, SPDIF and main outs can all have a different mix on all 6 inputs.
UTILIZATION
Using this interface is simple; the only thing you need to interact with is the front panel of it. That is where you can do all of your mixing from. You can even gig with this interface because it can be used without a computer just by plugging it in with the adapter and you are ready to go. You can even use this interface with any single DAW that is out. I have used it in everything from Cubase and FL Studio to Pro Tools.
GETTING STARTED
The sample rates on this interface are 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96kHz. There are 4 analog inputs XLR and 2 ¼ TRS balanced inputs, plus a bonus 2 ¼ guitar input. If you have a slower computer it could cause some problems when running it on any system that has Windows XP. But on Windows 7 it runs great, and on Vista. The main thing to make sure you have with either your Mac or PC, is to have a big hard drive.
OVERALL OPINION
The MOTU 4 Pre is a quality interface, my favorite feature with this interface is its stand alone abilities because being a studio artist and a gigging musician it is great to have an interface that can work in multiple situations for me. It is affordable and the preamps are good for the price.
