OVERALL OPINION

The first Sampler 5.1

USB Showed the Mach 5, a brand new virtual sampler UVI engine based on Their (The UVI engine IS Currently Used by Stylus, and all Plugsound series). Available in January, this software Should cost about 450 euros, and Would Be first released on the MAS platform. VST and RTAS versions are Also Planned.

Features include:
- Up to eight instruments per plug-in instance
- Support 96kHz/24bits
- Any imports sampler file format, Directly in Mach5, using a direct link to a CDxtract bundled software.
- Drag & drop samples from Any Application
- First sampler to support 5:1 samples
- Sample editor included
- Look BeautyFULL
- 4 effects per instrument
- Each sample and / or program year passes thru analog like filter / LFO / envelope synth section, MIDI controllable.
- Includes samples of over 1G.
- Could Directly Plugsound owner Their use in Mach5 sounds, from a convenient library popup menu.
- RAM based, order direct-to-disk streaming (ala GigaSampler) Also Planned

Installation on Mac impeccable (as always, ahem ...), but do not be anxious (for a CDRom install ', and a DVD ROM for sounds)

SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

The beast purrs, without flinching, and this, even in him by asking a lot of things.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for one week is a rgal.
The interface could not be more enjoyable, and clear.
Before making my choice, I tested the two major race condition:
- Gigasampler, who despite his age is a MODEL of the genre, but has to default to turn on PC and not as easily Integrates into a virtual configuration only.
- Kontakt, whose interface is less "sexy", but that the offer of MRIT DFD (since 1.2 I believe) and be easily intgrable (as Mach 5) in a virtual environment.

But prices gal, I prfre all of the same Mach 5, by far!

The same choice? Assurment!

Installation is no problem it?
adpends what is meant by a problem ... actually problem with MachFive PC ... ben non. with this problem (in DXI ...)!

Ben ... I have three PCs at home. None of the three does work with MachFive ... believe that we need a MAC! To note: the most powerful PC = P4 3.2 SATA 2048 MO ...

The manual is clear and sufficient? ...
Ben in the manual, it tell you that the installation should go read the files that are on the CD! mouaff felt the exit before the time it all!

What is the configuration of your computer? (Motherboard / CPU / Ram / Disk / sound card ..)
As I said I have three PC:
1 - P 4 Celeron 2.4 (we forget the l. ..)
1 - P 4 2.8 in 1024 with 533 DDR 333 on Shuttle SB51G config ... forget! has not work with the current version of MachFive.
3 - P 4 3.2 HT 2048 DDR 400 ... splash!
I must emphasize that jai do the test with TERRATEC sound cards (phase 22) and PHASE 88 FIREWIRE ... trs that work well with Cakewalk TTS or HYPER Q Edirol ... short, I think that we can blame the sound cards in the case.

It's beautiful ... but not work!

For my part, I do not understand that one can swing on the market products that are not successful. I seem to be a beta tester who has just paid a fortune for it appropriate to wipe the bugs ... it's the world upside down!
Exprience with, you will do again this choice? ...

PS: For exprience (I work in IT), anything with a PC dongle is avoid like the plague. And there is a dongle - damage.

Added Monday 21 fvrier 2005:

I ended up running properly MachFive PC version of SONAR 4 Studio. To do so, it took me to install the prg base, install the DVD sound ... uninstall the prg, CRER Vstplugins a folder in program files!, start the update: M5SETUPVST_1.2.exe he settle for the three dll, launch the vst adapt to get the plugs in Vstplugins folder ... DXI short version is not the point! However in VST is nickel chrome -

The PC installation: a disaster. I tried it on two configs, I pass the details, after 3 days of effort nothing works: on one it starts but the picture is horribly unstable, it crashes the system and the prog. And even sometimes it freaks me the m. in the audio, which works very well so far.
On the other driver of the PC is seen as Dunglas Antivir and the virus prg fails to start with the SHIFT win suggested by an error message. I'll make a third attempt at a computer dude ... Of course, the online seller does not answer my emails. When you live in the depths of the Amazon, it is convenient ... And at that price, it's nice ...

Asus X71Q, 2 GB RAM, Presonus interface. Config stable before the install of MachFive. Other phone: Compac Pressario CQ 60, 3 GB Ram stable too.

OVERALL OPINION

I wish I could say I use it!
GigaStudio tried, not bad but not very stable.
What I love most: beautiful interface.
What I like least: do not work. And more fucks the m. .. in what worked.
Value for money: shame.

I didn't have any problems installing the MOTU MachFive virtual sampler.  The whole process only took a few minutes and was virtually pain free.  The interface of the software however is another issues.  While I wouldn't say that it is convoluted, there is definitely a lot of different sections and features that the MOTU MachFive has to offer and therefore there is a lot going on within the interface.  However, after carefully perusing the software I found that everything was put together well and easily located after playing around with it for a bit.  The manual for the software breaks down everything you would need to know about the software and can be helpful if you have it.


SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

The MOTU MachFive will definitely take up a good amount of processing power and isn't the type of software that you can run a lot of at a time because of this.  I am currently running the software on a Mac Book Pro that has a 2.2 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 4 GB of RAM and I am able to run software pretty well.  As long as you have an adequate system to run your sequencer on, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to run this as well, just don't expect it to run all that fast if you don't have a good system.


OVERALL OPINION

All in all, the MOTU MachFive is a very powerful piece of software.  The basic functions of the software are easy to use and to understand and the rest of the software allows you to do some pretty in depth processing, effects, and other sorts of sound manipulation.  If you are looking to get into sampling, using the MOTU MachFive with Digital Performer will give you a powerful system.  The price of this software isn't too bad, but isn't the cheapest, however considering all the things that you can do with this, I would say it is worth the price for those who will use it.  Definitely a piece of software that is worth looking into.
