Flag, one more metalhead on the board !!

What do I listen to, metal-wise ? Well, these days mostly prog in every kind of sub-genre (from technical math-prog Meshuggah or Cynic style to atmospheric prog like recent Anathema, and lot in between). I really love bands like Opeth, Porcupine Tree, Pain of Salvation and Dream Theater. I also have a thing for gothic metal (with or without a female singer), doom metal, some death or black metal bands, and some 90's alternative rock/metal bands I grown up listening to (I never stopped to be a grunge teenager) ...
I'm not restrictive to a genre or subgenre, I rather listen to a band, and like it or not, whatever the magazines and disc sellers categorize it ...

You're a good man.

Quote: (with or without a female singer)

Most of the bands wich are told to be "female fronted gothic metal" are symphonic metal. I don't really know why people still goes on considering those bands as gothic metal.
Foolish debate but that's something that upsets me a little. It's always a pb when trying to discover new bands.

Same while speaking of Doom-Metal. It particularly happened back when the press thought that female-fronted atmospheric metal was doom-metal. esp. if it had a 'grunt male voice' to contrast with the female vocals.

Mustrum: I was thinking about bands like Theatre of Tragedy, not about Nightwish

ToT clearly had a doom influence in their two first albums.
So did Tristania in widow's weed.
Though i remember that they were used to be categorized as "Gothic Doom".

One more metalhead here, but sadly no more long haired:

Metallica - Dream Theater - Iron Maiden - Megadeth - Racer X - Dark Tranquillity - Sonata Arctica - Nightwish.

Kind of soft isn't it?
15
Things could have been worse :mdr: i notice you haven't quoted 'Tokio Hotel' !

I personally do prefer those sounding like shit.
19
Well, not really a metalhead (I don't like babies' blood), but I'm really into violent music these days (more a noise/hardcore fan actually)
So let me join you, I will make fun of neoclassical (fucking shredders :fache: ), symphonic metal (only good for counter strike videos), and a lot or other stuff in a very intolerent way :bravo:
20
Up ! No more metalheadz around here ??
21
Actually, I listen to Agalloch and Primordial, I just love it!! Agalloch above all, really great!!

And I'm also in an Iced Earth/Blind Guardian/Demons and Wizards mood :bave:

Hi guys

I'm fond of Ministry, KMFDM and more generally industrial music, i also appreciate Heavy (Megadeth) symphonic black metal (Dimmu, Limbonic art, Anorexia Nervosa..) and power metal like Pantera, Machine head..

:boire:
23
I guess you can count me in too... I'd prefer my guitars to go either Grindcore, Mathcore... on occaision Hardcore/Deathcore... anything core. But I do like Dragonforce, doing their thing... and then there's a variety of other bands, like Ministry, KMFDM, Pitchshifter and others, industrial influenced.

As for names... All shall perish, Genghis Tron, As blood runs black, The dillinger escape plan, The Black dahlia murder, Lamb of god... and the list goes on.
