« Gibson Songmaker DSM Dreadnought »

Published on 05/18/08 at 15:00
I play guitar, bass, keys and do some home studio recording as a hobby. I've been playing for about 20 years and enjoy mostly country and classic rock.

I bought this acoustic online at Musicians Friend for about $950. I wanted a higher quality acoustic and couldn't believe the prices on these Gibson's. Maybe I've been out of the market for a while, but I just think this represents a good deal.

What's not to like? Here's a little about the guitar from the MF site: The Gibson DSM Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar is crafted in Canada and features a solid spruce top, solid mahogany back and sides, and a solid mahogany bolt-on neck. The dreadnought body style and mahogany body structure fuse to create a rich, powerful sound with lots of punch and projection. The DSM has an ebony fingerboard and bridge, a tortoiseshell pickguard, and die-cast chrome tuners. Includes a Gibson hardshell case.

The bindings are a little plain, but I guess for the price I can't complain. It's not like they're going to throw in mother-of-pearl in this price range too.

Very solid and high quality. I'm very impressed with the tone and rigidity and the action is sweet too. This guitar really plays nicely.

This is not a cheap guitar, it's just a thousand dollar Gibson. It's high quality and plays smoothly and I'm really impressed with what they've been able to accomplish in this price range. I'd buy another if I could, but I think this will last me a while.
