Taylor 612-CE
Published on 11/30/01 at 15:00Purchased on trade for my 1968 Martin D-21 at Metro Music in Montgomery, AL. I netted about $600 in the deal. The price of the Taylor was about $2,000. I wanted a smaller guitar, with a brighter sound, more suited to finger style playing.
The Taylor 612-CE is a Grand Concert size, considerably smaller than a dreadnaught guitar. The big leaf maple back and sides produce a very balanced and bright sound. Taylor is famous for thin necks and light action and this guitar is no exception. The intonation is perfect all the way up the neck. The Taylor maintains it's tuning despite the light guage strings (I really like the Elixirs). It is also a spectacular looking instrument. There is abalone in the rosette and the fit and finish are perfect. The Fishman electronics compliment the natural sound of the guitar and make it an excellent choice to record in my home studio.
The guitar does not project a lot of volume unplugged. It is so light weight that it feels rather delicate. I have every reason to believe the instrument will hold up just fine, however.
The flamed maple back and sides are spectacular with a very pleasant golden glow to the high gloss finish. The grain of the sitka spruce top is very fine and even. The fit and finish is perfect. Despite the very ligght weight, the guitar seems solid and holds its tuning well.
The Taylor 612-CE is a wonderful small bodied acoustic guitar. It has a very clear and defined presence and plugs up very well. It appears to resist feedback. It is my main guitar - I did trade in a vintage Martin for it!

Like maple looks. I play fingerstyle and this guitar is great for that.
Would like a little more bass sound
Excellent.

That's it, it has happened, I am 40 years old! This is the moment for me to offer myself a dream! A Taylor 612 CE BLACK! (as in the picture!)
Already a beauty in the picture, but it has to be said, not even close to the real deal! Amazing, a marvelous finish, a particular very very neat attention, simply an unparalleled beauty. Possibly the most beautiful guitar I've ever seen. As you will have understood by now, I'm crazy about my new acquisition!
Now that I've unveiled its physique, the sound of the beauty: HUGE! Each stringed note is balanced and sounds without fault: stupefying! The size of this very fine device is surprising, pick up and play. Without embellishi…Read moreHello everybody!

Now that I've unveiled its physique, the sound of the beauty: HUGE! Each stringed note is balanced and sounds without fault: stupefying! The size of this very fine device is surprising, pick up and play. Without embellishing: one touch and it works, you are conquered. Thanks Mr. Taylor to have offered us an instrument of this caliber. We want more. Ok we are looking at horrifying prices, but frankly it really impresses me, with 25 years of music behind me. I have seen and I have had had plenty of players but I raise my hat to you. To all those who doubt the TAYLOR quality I hope you have changed your mind!
That's it: I have finished, I'm extatic, as you will have understood!
