RADIOKLOW
« A universal synthesizer »
Published on 11/25/10 at 08:31I use the Virus TI keyboard version since 2007 with happiness and more time passes, the greater my passion for this remarkable instrument in all respects. The keyboard contains 61 keys. can go up or down in register with two buttons well placed to facilitate change octave on the fly.
It has three LFOs, three oscillators, two filters, many types of waveforms, number of effects of high quality and high precision: various distortions, frequency shifter, ring modulator, chorus, phaser, reverb, delay, Earnings , to name just a few examples. Each of its inputs offers many variations of settings spread over several pages very readable and very easy to emulate. It is far from instruments that offer only a few modular effects a very small scale.
The Virus TI integrates beautifully with Logic (and no doubt any good sequencer) through excellent control surface comes with software drivers. This surface: Virus Control provides access to all editing parameters of the instrument using a classification consistent and effective. Research and loading banks made easy and quickly.
UTILIZATION
Access regularly offers new range of new sounds in addition to comfortable and beautiful banks of Ram and Rom factory. All these banks can work in any direction, since the electro-acoustic music type GRM up to electro club most recently through the school of Berlin, the synthetic pop of the 80 or 'ambient current. The sounds are editable so precise and so developed it is easy to change a pad percussion orchestra: just working the sound material at depth to get there. The possibilities are so many transformations that the creation from a single basic sound is almost infinite. If we multiply this figure by the total number of banks proposed to date by the manufacturer, we measure the extent of such a creative synthesizer. It requires loving the sound synthesis and research, which is my case. Even if we can obviously just fun to play with the sounds contained in the many banks offered by Access, the real reason for the Virus TI is offering this huge area of creative explorations in sound. I created three years many banks of sounds of any type, including a real organ case which is very useful in concert. Even the sounds downloaded from the website of Access that interest me the least (all that is electro club), are accurate, bright and can be used to make anything else, without any difficulty.
I add that access to the settings is robust enough that we can make such drastic changes on the fly: the Virus TI is as much an instrument of improvisation in concert a research tool in the studio.
SOUNDS
Themselves in the sounds proposed exploring all orientations. In addition they are beautiful, each in its own kind and, as I mentioned earlier, can be worked in complete recreation so exciting: the results of research can lead to surprises sound of great beauty.
In general, the sounds of the Virus TI does not seek to imitate and reproduce existing patches, such as those of acoustic instruments. He proposes instead a synthetic universe very ambitious and often innovative, while including sometimes wisely certain types of sounds to some great vintage synthesizers. The effects of a high sensitivity modulate these sound objects and color them with wealth through different entrances: the Mod Wheel, three soft knobs dedicated directly to specific effects that change with the sound and the user can reassign and of course all the pads and knobs for controlling the effects specifically. This quality can be deployed together a varied and expressive playing fast.
The keyboard responds with excellent precision. Excellent velocity and aftertouch can be resolved easily, using a range of choices of good size.
I love all the sounds of the Virus ........... even those that I find ugly! Indeed, as I mentioned above, the synthesis capabilities of this instrument is so large and so open that even the ugly duckling to a swan almost instantly becomes king.
OVERALL OPINION
I compared the Virus TI with a dozen other polyphonic synthesizers at the time of my initial search. While many deserve the greatest consideration, none seemed so full of possibilities. The Virus TI truly opened to all directions without restriction. Although a fairly high price, which is justified in my eyes, it's worth it.
Unlike some modern polyphonic synthesizers such as the Roland Phantom series, it does not sound banks orchestral or piano, but its rich palette of sound is such that the choice of manufacturer is fully justified. The Virus TI is from this point of view an avant garde.
My only regret is that he has no sequencer. Certainly he has a great arpeggiator, but one begins to dream of what would be a future with Virus TI sequencer keyboard control! It would blow the idea to the manufacturer.
Despite this last point, I think the Virus TI as the center of my music device: well, I have since acquired several other synthesizers very different kind, I always use in conjunction with the Virus TI as chaperones with a vocalist or soloists with an orchestra.
Not only I would do the same choice, but I like to have a second to use it as part of my performances.
