DR Strings DDT

Dr Strings DDT Drop-Down Tuning Bass 4-StringPublished on 09/29/11 at 15:00
First things first, you'll know you've found these strings when you see the great spider logo on the package! DDT is on of DRs new ideas, it recently came out along with their NEON string technology. DDT stands for Drop Down Tuning.

I reviewed these for a website, so I strung them up on both my Warwick and a P-bass. I tested out the 45-105 4-string set. They were on my basses a total of a month to get a good idea of sound and string life.

The street price on these is $25 for a 4-string set and closer to $30 for the 5-string set.

Plenty of slack. I was able to use these on my Warwick and on my P-bass that has a string thru the body bridge.

The tension was firm and stable. The winding on these are thinner and there is more winding than your usual roundwound string. A little different feeling, but worked out great as the bass held great tuning.

I guess I wanted more out of the strings as far as tension. I was hoping I'd be able to tune it to standard, then drop D, then down a 1/2 or a whole step and keep the same tension. This wasn't the case. They flapped around like any other string when you try these. Maybe I was mislead?

I do not get a ton of life out of DR Strings, maybe it is the oils in my hands? I can barely get a month out of these with gigging.

I talked about this above. They are tighter wound and feel nice and smooth.

DR Strings are handmade in NJ. I believe these are nickel. The tone was somewhat darker than what I am used to.

If you enjoy DR nickel wound strings, you will probably like these. I didn't feel the DDT technology did anything spectacular.
