I just bought myself a new computer and I want to use of o my hard disk for home recording

Here are the specs.

PC:PentiumIV 478 2,8GHz 800fsb ht
Motherboard: ASUS P4800
Memory: 2x256 DDR 400 dual memory
Hard Drive: 2xMaxtor 120 gig 7200 RPM 8MB SATA
Casing: Turbox Superalien 500watt power supply
Sound Card: audigy mp3 5.1
Video card: Geforce 4 ti 4200
+ cd and cd writer...

Now the second part where I need your help.
I have read a lot on the subject but I am new to home studio
I am planning to buy an m-audio delta 1010

http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=products.main&ID=25a8eb75ad625b157c03ca63d4eb5c72

I need the 8 inputs to record the drums.
4 inputs are not enough for me

I have also seen this product (omni I/O), I would like to use it to plug in the microphone for voices and fot earphones sinces there are two out in it.

For guitars, alot of people are talking about the Pod from line-6 and I am thinking about also buying this product. Someone knows if it can do a great job?

I also think that I need a compressor, but I don't know anything about them, price range etc. One that can do the job but not overprice.

For programs I use cool edit pro 2 (Adobe Audition 1.0)
I got this program for mastering that sounds great (T-Racks)

http://www.t-racks.com/Main.html?TRInfo

For mics we will rent them for the drums and we got a friend that got 2 very very good ones to record voice or acoustic gitars. (they cost over 1000$ each)

So if I need something else (i will not use any midi) or doing something wrong please help me

Thanx
Dom

I just keep on surfing on the net...
Is the layla 24 better than the m-audo delata 1010?

If I buy the layla 24 I won't need the Omni I/O ?

Does the Layla 24 has a preamp (for vocal) built in it?

Thanx

As far as I can remember the Layla does not have any preamp just like the Delta 1010.

If you have a Firewire port the New Edirol FA-101 may be exactly what you are looking for:

Yes I have a firewire port in front of my pc case.
So this is better than the Omni I/o

But wich card is better .. the layla 24 or the Delta 1010...
I have read that some people had problems with the delta 101 drivers....

Thanx

Hi!
Just regarding the POD part for guitars...
Try the ToneLab from VOX.
The POD just sounds to... digital! You know?
The Vox uses a real tube amp and can emulate a really really GOOD sound.

Best of luck!
