Thread jackd Suse 9.0 does not start

Hi I am running suse9 and wanted to install ardour. ardour needs jack.
on the root commandline I entered the start comand ..did something and started something.
..but never came bak to the bash prompt.
jackd processes where running according to ps -e.

any Idea?
