in order to get stereo inputs for my computer, do i need two sound cards? right now, i can't pan on my mixer. it just comes into the computer in mono

the "line in" is usually stereo.
maybe you are using the wrong cable.

supposing you have a standard pci soundcard, yes i am referring to the card's "line in" input (usually the blue plug)
