Published on 12/03/02 at 15:00The band I'm in decided that we wanted to record the music we have been working on for the last few years. We are all around 50 and felt like we should do it now before the arthritis gets us. We wanted more tracks to work with, and started looking around. The up front man who also did all the recording before with a four track picked out a few from the musicians friend and I picked the vf 160 based on price and it's capabilitys.
I like the way that you use the jog wheel to acsess the different settings. The number of different functions, and sheer volume of music that can be stored. This recorder is a computer really and the sound quality is great! I can't belive the quality of sound I can get right here at my house. I also like the layout of the controls. The thing I like best about this unit is the cd burner.
The vf160 did require a good amount of time in reading to understand how to operate. Since this was my first recorder, and my first try at recording. I think Itwas alot to digest at once. I imagine a person who had prior experience recording would find it easier.
The vf160 is very well made. All imputs and connections are solid. The buttons all have a solid feel. The unit operates quietly, and has done more that I expected. I was unsure of my choice due to lack of information and experience with recorders, but Now I feel confident in my recording abilitys. I have even recorded myself playing drums, bass, rythum, and lead .
I have enjoyed using this machine, and It has helped me to compose original music by allowing me to lay down a drum track, then go back in,using the pod direct, and with a minimum of setup time, lay down bass and guitar sometimes making up parts as I go along. I have never been able to do that before. This machine has opened me up to composing.
