E-mu Mo' Phatt
Published on 01/17/02 at 15:00Bought the unit at MARS for $549.00 I am a part time producer of hip-hop and gospel music.
Love this S+S unit. E-mu has really loaded this unit with over 1,200 waveforms and it's 50+ filters to give you a wide palette to create your music.
I really get into the guitar waveforms, tons of wah-guitar type stuff that really kicks it. Also love the Farfisa organ samples. When you really dig into the filtering and effects in this unit you can create any sort of hip-hop or soul groove you need. The effects are pretty good. Reverbs are not Lexicon standard, but for live use they are nice.

You can layer up to four sample waveforms per "patch" and can detune them, filter them, use velocity x-overs, pretty much whatever strikes you fancy. The drum kits are very good as well and I find myself using my Alesis drum machine far less than before now that I have the effects built in.
I don't use the Superbeats mode that the Mo' Phatt has, but the arpeggiator is very tweakable and rivals my Triton's unit at a very reasonable price.
To wrap up I'd endorse this unit for hip-hop, pop, rap, gospel, soul, funk and trip-hop musicians. I find a new fresh sound every time I dig into this unit in the studio.
Wish it had more outs. Only one analog 1/4" pair. I did not have the cash to go for the Turbo Phatt, with six analog 1/4" outs and 128 voice polyphony. Only becomes and issue when using the drums.
Excellent construction. Feels solid. You can open up the unit and add E-mu expansion ROMs but I have not dared yet. Rack ears are solid. Knobs are very nice and feel precise. They have a nice resistance when using the four face knobs to edit sounds in real time.
Buy it! Or buy a another E-mu product in the Proteus 2000 family (XL-1, Proteus 2K, Hammond B3) etc. and purchase the Pure Phatt ROM, it is the same ROM as the Mo' Phatt and includes the superbeats, etc. with no shortcuts.

The sounds are paramtrables Obviously from the surface of which CONTRL possde potentiomtres 4 x 3 = 12 levels paramtres IMMEDIATE possible. FYI everything that can be said can be as faade via MIDI from an external MIDI interface.
the Mo'Phatt possde 6.35mm 2 audio outputs, three MIDI (in / out / thru), a 3-prong electrical plug.
UTILIZATION
The interface is clear trs. It does dveloppe on Audity 2000 and reproduced on all models E-MU. A user interface that is exactly the same on all modules of E-MU sound.
The edition is Ct sounds simple, it plutt ct effects of a more complicated. The Mo'phatt possde doucle a Stereo effects processor does not offer the possibility to route the effects will. It's everyone or anything.
The manual in French is not a Bible and apply all the sound modules of the brand.
SOUNDS
It is primarily the ct ITS Mo'phatt vritablement is effective. The sound environment really well tudi t trs and sound designers attacked donns field day. This is an excellent module as well as the individual card can be installed in any other module E-MU.
a ring.
OVERALL OPINION
This is a good module. E-MU quickly learned hand Ya ... or Ro ... or K. .. that musicians still needed our answer to a espce CODE sound verging almost CODE gntique. The man Difference in skin color, music by color or musical sound, the modules E-MU also possde their own skin color and their own sound color. This is shuffled between genres and sounds as in humans is important for a difier cohrence. The plurality of sounds in the range E-MU's really important and the bank is sound trs exhaustive.
For my part, we just go round the ROM cards of competition in this E-MU has strong trs. Even if the effects are difficult edit.
It sounds, and that's all we ask. ..

But, I am down here that hurts. There are not many sounds, it quickly makes the turn. Be used especially batteries, scratches and one or two nice lead, but there are not many instruments, it is especially sound samples already ... It is therefore impossible to take to dr. dre, the composition is not really the stuff of mo 'phatt. But we will come out even when to do his business, the sounds are still very hot ... But we hardly use the mo'phatt alone, another expander will be mandatory ... damage
OVERALL OPINION
I got it really cheap, but it is not worth the price I think. Almost pay for a machine beat is a shame. It is better to buy the Proteus 2000 and do not hesitate to take the card mo'phatt more.See less30 - FP UserPublished on 10/31/08 at 16:00Dope for hiphop some really gd sounds i tink da 1 from like i love you justin timberlake is on it dunno tho sounds exactly like it

Very user friedly. Connect and go.
No problems so far. It's been 3 years.

Sound quality is ok, some songs sound too computerish, like a low freq. internet connection.

The Mo' Phatt is very user friendly. The only problems I have encountered is that the upgrade ROM's cost too much, and the sounds have become dated and played out (IMHO).

The sound quality with this unit (Seen equally in most E-Mu modules) is stellar. The Mo' Phatt is a straight work horse. I rarely have to add any processing to the sounds in this module.

E-Mu has continued their track record of building very durable modules. I have taken the Mo' Phatt to recording sessions in just a gig-bag without concern. My Mo' Phatt has never been repaired, I bought the Mo' Phatt used from E-Bay 2 years ago and have never had a problem.
Huuuhmmm, Love Factor. I did love the Mo' Phatt when I first purchased her. Being the sounds have been used so much, my Mo' Phatt is a acting staple in my studio, and I would never sell her (I have 6 E-Mu modules). I guees you can say my Mo' Phatt (becky) and I have an ongoing affair and she is my "bottom chick". My Mo' Phatt is always there when I need her. So I guess I still am in love with her......
