I bought this MIM bass used but in like new condition at auction on Ebay for $240. I wanted a fretless with a thin neck and this fit the bill nicely.

The neck is thin and fast and the fretlines and side markers make it easy to find your place on the neck. The classic J-Bass body is well balanced and still looks as cool as ever. The tone with flatwounds is pure warmth. This lends it perfectly to old rock and jazz and, being old, well, that's what I play.

The tuners seem to be too easy to knock out of tune with their big, clunky keys. The pick-ups are weak and produce a prodigious hum if you crank the volume too high near the amp or a computer, or a flourescent fixture, or...for instance.

This thing would make an excellent weapon for hand-to-hand combat. It's built like a fortress and could easily kill a man. The neck joint looks like it could have a little gap in it, but it's tight and stable. The finish is smooth an glossy and shines up nice. The bridge is standard Fender (read: cheesy) but works to get the job done. Good sustain and tone and an overall solid feel make this bass a classic for a reason.

Here's the skinny: If you want a fretless that sounds good, looks good, is reasonably priced and plays like butter, look no further. Be ready with a good amp, since the pickups need help, but other than that, it's definately a keeper.

I bought this bass Cosmo's Music (Toronto, Ontario). I was looking for a fretless bass that day, and I found the only one on the shelf, I picked it up for $500, and since then, I have been unable to stop collecting basses.

The Fender Jazz Fretless has a really smooth neck, which makes it easy to move around. The Fretless tone really comes out when the first volume is turned up, and the second turned right off, with the tone up to it's max.
Great bass for older rock songs with basslines that were meant to be heard. eg: Stuck in the Middle, Brown Eyed Girl, etc.
Also the frets are marked by lighter fills which do not interfere with the great fretless sound.


What I don't like about this bass is the tightly wound strings that are necessary for a fretless. When playing quick riffs, or just a song that is all eighth notes, the strings get sticky and hard to play.
Also with the fretless, the quick bass fills that need that crisp sound, consisting of sixteenth notes (or faster) just don't come out because it's fretless.

The bass is built well...a little heavier than the Fender P-Bass, for there are more electronics, but that means nothing and takes little time to grow accustom to.
Great overall construction and reliable bass.

Over all, if you're looking for a great bass for jazz, swing, and those great old rock song like the ones listed in the "Likes" text, this is a great bass.
Solid, reliable, and an awesome sound.

Mine is not a MODEL standard because it is a signature Noel Redding, bass output only 1000 copies, and somehow the equivalent of a 65 reissue (the original bassist of low Hendrix ) because it has all CHARACTERISTICS: mcaniques reverse, sublime sunburst "era as" vintage bridge, finger rest, handle a little more round than a standard Jazz (actually a mix between run precision and Jazz). This bass was well on t dfrtte because as everyone knows, Mr. Redding did not play on fretless ...
the finish is REALLY copy, and not to shame many Amricaines ...

UTILIZATION

Channel trs enjoyable, well suited to the game astonishment fretless given its roundness
excellent ergonomics, does not sting the nose as the Japanese standard!

Bought used for about 900 euros, it's well worth!
I tried many other models alone, mostly of jazz, and that is those that we care!

The Zetes simply unfortunate that the pickups are not great on this MODEL. As I've dj said it was more a sound that many sounds. But what's sacr! It's best to change the pickups. I'll probably do one of these four.

OVERALL OPINION

It's been a few months I have and I'm happy, I think I'm the blackmail Jaco. I try some fretless before, and not too expensive. Shabby terrible. I waited because I wanted a bass that sounds, plutt to say "I possde a fretless." And that's it: I took the oportunuit who offered me a jazz bass japan used. Especially not hsiter, report-quality unbeatable price. We change the pickups, there is a little customization, and you get a warning that low life.
