Published on 07/20/11 at 07:15Vintage '75 Jazz Bass, made in 2002, Made in USA, a handle portion maple (maple), ash body (in Part 3).
- Vintage bridge (replaced with a Badass II)
- 22 frets, 2 single coil vintage microphone U.S. 75,
- Electronics passive TVV (replaced by a J-Retro preamp)
- Trussrod bullet
- Polyurethane varnish, shiny and very thick
- Strap standard (replaced by Straplock Schaller)
It's Fender = banal, too commonplace, too bad it's time to improve the hardware Mr Fender. It's too standard.
UTILIZATION
The handle is a delicacy and softness. A highway for the fingers, attention 130km max!
Ergonomics is a Jazz Bass =, ie unbalanced low and not suitable to play seated. Standing, it is relatively well balanced, but heavy (think to buy a good strap)
The ash body makes it a relatively heavy bass, but with an unparalleled sustain. Access to sharp is easy with a little practice, but it's not really made for this. For sound, it's easy to have a sound, but what?
SOUNDS
It suits a lot of style, I would say that we can do everything, playing on the set, as well as your technique of play for the Marcus Miller, the slap and plectrum = ideal.
But the microphone is not great, I feel that it is the same two
The finger, it lacks fishing, roundness and warmth. However, it has a sound that is not found in all the jazz bass. The combination of passive electronics, micro, woods and a radius therefore promotes a clear, precise and powerful, with boosted bass and treble too over mediums. (Medium remains clear but less punchy)
I play either a Bassman, or a Beringer, Hartke ETCC .... of course, depending on the amp and settings, they sound differently.
Originally, I thought the sound was bad, it lacked punch, dynamics, level, round (because of the liability you may say, but it is not true) so I installed a preamp On-Board (J-Retro post coming soon), and since I have an amazing range of sounds, in addition to possibilities in liability, the possibilities I have a sound passf in assets and improve at will.
In short, now, with the U.S. micros are good quality and on-board preamp, it sounds amazingly well!
The rating is based on the original sound, if I were noted with the preamp, it would be a 9.5/10.
OVERALL OPINION
I use it for over 4 years. To me, it has too many default to pay the price (not great sound and microphone, block inlays not very well dressed, cracked varnish to the back of the handle, body in three parts, fittings too ...). STANDARD
So I suggest you think carefully, because it is expensive and if it suit you, if you choose poorly, you may be like me, to be disappointed. In goal, for what it has cost me, I can get the high-end Asian or European.
The value for money is really bad (to not say no). At that price, Fender could make an effort. It's a shame, because the violin is beautiful, unsurpassed comfort for the fingers and sustain unrivaled.
Hint: think twice before, if just for the Fender made in usa, its worth not bother (well, a little, but is better as bass).
But if you make the same changes that I and my friends, you will have an excellent bass (but very expensive). What pushed me to improve it? because I love this beast! she is so beautiful, docile and fun to play! But with experience, I would do certainly not the choice.
