Peavey Zephyr

I got this second hand at very reasonable price so take that into account in the value for money rating. I got it mainly on the name, I used to play drums in a band years ago and the Bass player played a Peavey T40 which he really rated at the time as a very versatile Bass, good for all types of music, (and good for defending himself! We use to play some rough old gigs but I was impressed by its build particularly after having seen him stop mid number to vigorously dissuade an over enthusiastic stage invader or two, and then slip back into the song without having to re-tune or anything. Enough of the T40 though, this is suppose to be about my C4 Zephyr) Back to now and I saw this and thought it's definitely more of a looker than the T40 and hoped it would be as well made and good a gigging bass. At the time though, (about 3 years ago), more of a learner Bass as I hadn't played for a while and wasn't much good back in the day, (but always hopeful - do you know how may black cats I have accosted on a crossroads at midnight?)

So the bass itself it was made in Vietnam in the 90's and is a 7-piece maple/mahogany through-neck (or 5-piece depending upon how far up the neck you go) with walnut wings and a rosewood fretboard. It has 24 frets in a 35 in scale and two passive, (I believe this is the only Cirrus series Peavey that has passive pickups) Peavey VFL Pickups. There is a volume and tone knob for each pickup a fully adjustable bridge and 14/1 tuners. I say its suitable as a beginner bass and it is for me but like the Bass I am large and heavy; it would not be a good beginner bass for children or small people. I am still not great as a Bass player but it has been played by a number of people I know who are and they all agree it a good workhorse with plenty of Bass tone, it can be a little rattly if not set up properly though. Finally it is built to last; and has, it's at least 20 years old but it doesn't show its age.

Handle a little more than a Jazzbass pais, unless a Precision, easy enough even if like me you were playing before the end of a handle trs.

Lutherie exceptional in this price range: linden and bubinga. Not this agathis which offers us the tools and cheap as luthiers is a catamaran.

BMOL: to reveal the types of wood, this bass is not painted or varnished. Caution, fragile!

UTILIZATION

Access in acute easier, nothing more. Ergonomics is correct but the weight standard. A deprecated frles the shoulders (even if I personally am not a Hulk). However, although balance: does not sting the nose or the handle. Large strap binding.

In my opinion, is the price paid for a bass that sounds. It has the excellent sustain. It is an instrument of simple design: good wood, no endless rglages (low passive), but the characters. As a good passive.

SOUNDS

Suitable for bass players who like low frquences (!!!) and big sound. Not for slapper in any obviousness.

Good, sound, with 2 humbuckers, this is not done in the lace Pastorius ... If you want to sound DIFFERENT, lean on the amp. Big fat and round in his appointment. With distortion, you pluck it.

Good even when the pots fill out their office. For me it's nickel. I put 9 because our friends shining innings, will not be terrible. Otherwise, fans of bass lines simple and effective: get your eyes closed!

One hears much against two scratch Marshall quips and a bear battery. (I have a Peavey 75W)

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for one month but I dj on many many jou MODELS, including more expensive. Honntement is better than a Squier (Precision) and a Fender Mexico. (For me)

I love the violin, I regret the weight, knowing that it is the sound ranon! Quality-price ratio and the incredible pros use them (seen on a site zikos English)

Hlas (you!) Produced small SERIES. This is also what makes it charming.

- The handle is close to a PB, fairly thick and wide, screwed.

The construction is a "sandwich" between two pieces of alder hardwood, the best effect. The handle is of the same barrel, Saddle nets in African wood (bubinga?)

UTILIZATION

- The handle end of default to be quick and trs is enjoyable, broad and flat. CHAC is most acute in the ISSA, no heel, the handle is screwed to Manir give the feel of a neck-through.

- Ergonomics is quite "manly" the handle is not made for delicate hands and the weight is dlicates consquent. Without the violin irrprochable. Nanmoins suprieure the horn bte 11ME overlooks the square, giving it a perfect balance. A wide strap is mandatory.

- The sound is trs typ: heavy and loud style ... almost nothing. I sound out "slapables" great fanfare the effects of multi-c **, and again. The 2 humbuckers leave little room for the percussive technique. The treble knobs are used to mix out of lines like "walking bass", nothing more. Anti Jazzbass whatever. With flat files is standard, full of serious old school.

SOUNDS

Perfect for music that sounds ncessitent large round high-low and low mdiums.
Uses in the studio & live in DIFFERENT amp (Peavey, Fender) standard and the sound is bold.
