Squier Classic Vibe Jazz Bass '60s

My one has a basswood body with a very well made polyester finish, C shaped maple neck, rosewood fingerboard with white dot inlays. It has two single coil pick-ups, one volume knob for each of them and one tone knob for both. Chrome hardware and that cool tortoiseshell pickguard. It looks exactly like the american model, if it wasn’t for the name on the headstock no one could tell the diference by looking.

I am not really a bass player, haven’t used it in any serious gig. I use it mostly to produce videogame soundtracks at my home studio (because there I can always fix stuff later , so have played some diferent styles with it. Needed a versatile bass for that and bought one from a friend when he wanted to upgrade his setup.

UTILIZATION

This bass is very ‘easy’ to play: its light enough so you can play it for some hours before feeling it’s weight (get a good strap, it makes a huge diference!). It is also very ergonomic, no weird corners bothering your forearms or belly while playing. If you use your strap in a reasonable height it is very easy to reach the high notes. I also like the neck, it is a bit thinner than the precision basses, if you also play guitar I think it’s easier to adapt to this one, but if you like to play those superfast slap lines a thicker neck might be better.

The vintage style tuning machines do their job well and the whole instrument is very well built and finished.

SOUNDS

I think it sounds really good and close to its original american cousin. You can go from funky lines to walking bass to sabbath with the same instrument, adjusting only the pickup volumes and the settings on your amp. More of the bridge and you get those nice high-mids that can make you be heard in a loud rock band, more of the neck and it gets fuller and smooth for some jazzy lines. Its pretty cool to explore how many possibilites you can have with only three knobs - and maybe a pick if you like them to play bass.

OVERALL OPINION

This combination of versatility and price is absolutely perfect if you're looking for a first instrument (or a first bass if you already play something else) and don't really understand what you want from one. It is also absolutely worth it to invest in an instrument like this: change its pickups, for example, and you’ll have a bass that you can probably keep and get great sounds of for the rest of your life.

But even if keeping an instrument for the rest of your life is not your plan, you can still learn and do a lot with one of these Squier Basses. I really wish that the cheaper instruments where this good when I started playing.

UTILIZATION

Here we have yet another winner in the Squier Classic Vibe series. This bass feels just like playing one of the high end Fender Jazz basses! It is every bit at home with fingerstyle as it is with a pick. Slap and pop feel a bit constrained, due to the string spacing, but the techniques are still doable. The weight is solid, not too heavy, and the bass balances well. The finish is spot on, as is the workmanship overall - the fretwork is a lot better than most instruments in its class.

SOUNDS

For the money, this bass sounds fantastic. I can pull off different tones like Led Zeppelin, Jaco Pastorius, Red Hot Chili Peppers, all very convincingly with this instrument, so the tonal range is very versatile. I cannot think of a genre that couldn't be played with this bass, except genres demanding extreme extended ranges. For a four string instrument, this can get a wide range of sounds.

OVERALL OPINION

For the price, this Classic Vibe bass is a great buy. It looks fantastic, it plays great, and the tones that are achievable are vast. For any musician that wants to spend money and do some modifications to it, it can be improved upon to get it performing with the very high-end instruments. But for the cost, I give this a 9 out of a possible 10.

For feature live internet, and in general, we do not dwell on the characteristic of a low at this price, we know what it is and where it comes from!
good for the price, it's perfect but it's still cheap as anything else comes from Asia!

UTILIZATION

Super nice handle and glides well, really great to start, it progresses very quickly.
The micro lacks a bit of potato but just turn up the volume and it keeps a very clean sound.

SOUNDS

I play on a Hartke 100w transistor without problem group, concert or rehearsals.

OVERALL OPINION

I have this bass for about 4-5 years, I am more bass guitar, but I really like, so I bought this instrument internet and good surprise, easy to play, set ... I had to other low as Ibanez ATK that was really good, sound level but harder to play!

This is a Chinese made Squier unlike other models that come from Indonesia.

UTILIZATION

The handle is very nice (it's a round of Jazz Bass) with a thick layer of polyester varnish therefore a real highway.
The have bandwidth to acute is easy.
Ergonomics is very good, it is a bit heavy but the weight is well distributed.

SOUNDS

This is a Jazz Bass so versatile bass, I play with Ampeg BA 112 and I am completely satisfied.
Level settings will have one pickup setting, and neck pickup tone is a passive bass, varied fairly quickly whether to slap or fingers playing sound palette is obtained, it is also possible to a typed his Precision Bass easily.

The Classic Vibe series is the high-end Squier, they are comparable to Fender mexico, finishes are really clean, microphones quality, value for money is more than correct.
Whatever your level if you want a low quality not too expensive, go for it.
I tried other Squier models before buying Vintage Modified series which that sounds really good, but the handle is not varnish and much worse than the Classic Vibe finishes.
With the experience I remake that choice without hesitation, it's a great bass.
