UTILIZATION

Operation is very simple, like many multi-effects now. Presets bases are not very good, we must quickly look over to sculpt your own sounds, and we quickly the desired result. Access to the various effects is very simple and large buttons for each section strongly resemble those of Vox (as weird ... ;-).

The manual is not very clear and contains some huge mistakes: reversal pattern in the calibration of the expression pedal for example.

Update: The acoustic simulation is not terrible because it comes out at very low levels and as a result if we push the preset level, it generates a large enough breath. So this simulation is not used really. In addition, the effect Drone that is supposed to simulate the sympathetic strings of a sitar is not that great either, very difficult to settle for one use and it is still terrible.

Otherwise, the ESS is funny: it allows to vary the value of a parameter of any effect on a number of steps and speed. For example to speed up and slow Leslie effect (which in fact I find quite successful, it accelerates and decelerates!) Or automatically change the depth of a chorus. It is not essential but very fun to have fun on rainy days!

SOUND QUALITY

The sound quality is very correct: many of the settings affect the sound and can not hurt to push the effects of an end to the other. The amp models are correct. The big advantage of this multi-effect is that it is a true multi-effects. I mean it can be used only as many effects and completely bypass the section of simulation amp and speakers, which is becoming increasingly rare. So we in section Drive / Amp, half of which are effects pedal distortion, overdrive and fuzz, and the other half of the amps. It's really a good thing for this pedal.

With a Mexican Telecaster, it sounds good, the character of the guitar is pretty well respected.

The second big advantage of this pedal is that it offers synth sounds that are good. We can therefore avoid the pickup for the synth with a guitar!

Update:

Connect a 100W all-tube Carvin amp, it sounds really good! The bypass is well and use as a simple multi-effect is very nice. The dynamic is not much affected, nor the bandwidth for that matter. One good thing about this pedal.

Update 04/07/2006:

The overdrive is really nice: in fact, we can manage the rate of overdrive with the volume of the guitar. In addition, plugged into a Vox Cambridge 30, the overdrive is very warm, and when combined with the boosted channel Vox, it was a distortion of the most enjoyable by far exceeding the number of pedals distos.

For cons, the wah-wah in my opinion leaves much to be desired: it does not dig quite sound. Maybe I have not quite worked the settings but it is not worth a real wah. So I use a Cry Baby plugged into the effects loop, which allows me to use the expression pedal as volume.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it intensely for three days and I actually filled. This is not the best of all, it's still the amp simulation to work but it's really the sound of his guitar at a low cost: 300 euros in effect-on-line in Lyon.

+ + +: Separate amp simulator / distortion pedal
synth sounds
quality / price ratio
very nice pedal

---: Switch a little "cheap" would have been better to switch like the Vox metal, for rotary knobs too!
the worst faults: the insertion point is necessarily pre-FX, you can not choose! So we can not plug a Jamman
in! It's the disappointment of this pedal (for me anyway).

With the experience I would do this choice without hesitation.

Update 04/07/2006:

After several months of use, I am even more pleased with this pedal. First used as an amp simulator that fully satisfy me (use room with headphones), I now use it exclusively in multi-effects plugged into my Vox and I get really easy to find the sounds I want. Of course some effects are not terrible but they are drowned in a multitude of effects of superior quality.
The only weak point which, for me, its appearance is a bit "cheap" but rest assured, it is more solid than it seems.

Notice to owners of a Jamman Digitech!

In the configuration Korg AX3000G -> Jamman -> Amp, the sound of the guitar sizzles on strong attacks on its clear, and the breath goes up a notch. The crackling of the four conversions surely come as a result (for the Korg two and two for the JamMan).

Update 24/07/2006:

This pedal has no on / off switch, do as I do, install a switch type desk lamp just before the power connection, it will cost you only two or three euros and five minutes from time votrte!
