« Zoom 606 Guitar Effects Unit »

I recieved this item as a gift, but i know that it was acquired from Music123.com for $99.00 (US), plus shipping. I wanted it because im pretty new to playing guitar, and was tired of the same sounds. I was considering the Zoom 505 Mark II, which is highly rated. However, the newer 606 has a built in expression pedal which is a $50 accessory for the 505. The reviews also said that the 606 has higher quality effects.

This effects unit has tweakable sounds of many different effects pedals. It has a built in wah pedal, auto wah, chorus, flanger, pitch modulation. The pedal can be used to set volume, distortion amount, wah, and delay. It also has about 10 different distortion sounds, which range from clean to blues to full metal. The unit can also be used as a headphone amp, and can probably be hooked up to most stereos with an rca cable and adaptor. This effects unit also lets you create about 40 different presets composed of the 9 different effct channels linked together. Its pretty easy to edit these presets to create alot of cool sounds. It also has alot of cool echos.

Alot of the factory presets are boring and seem to sound alot alike. Editing quickly changes this. Also, a few of the effects are wierd, and would probably not be used in the real world, such as slow attack, ring mod, and step.

The switches and pedal all still work after about 2 months. It is made out of plastic, but I forsee no big problems, as long as it isnt abused. I have an 9V adapter, which is helpful to avoid buying batteries for it every few weeks.

I think this is a good effects unit for beginners through professionals. As long as it isnt abused, it will probably hold up.
