Zoom G1on

With the latest update, this little pedal now has hundreds of effects and amp simulations, which should satisfy everyone. A priori, it is the same simulations as those used in the Zoom G3, quality is at the rendezvous. The 30-second looper is disconcerting efficiency and simplicity, and the drum machine is both pleasant and flexible to use.

Few connectors: a guitar input, stereo line output / headphone, a V power socket 9 USB. The latter can be used for powering the unit. Connected to a computer, the USB port allows the update of the device. However, once connected, the G1on is recognized as a MIDI device, which makes me think that some smart guys can develop applications to configure the pedal distance. Unlike the G3, the G1on is indeed not supported by ZoomEdit.

UTILIZATION

Ergonomics is the rendezvous. Despite the single screen, the rack configuration is very intuitive. The graphical interface makes it easy to program the pedals where the amps. Use of the manual is a priori useless.

SOUND QUALITY

For this price, the effects are truly quality: nothing to do with a Korg Pandora. Here, the breath is very content and personality pedals and amps pretty well respected. Modulations are beautiful. I just sometimes difficult to get a clean sound, even with the Fender amp simulations: obviously, it is crunch or distorted sounds that are privileged in this unit.

It is very close to the end of a Zoom G3, with a few restrictions: less power (thus less effect), less memory (30 seconds looper against 40), no ability to manage the pedal from a computer ...

OVERALL OPINION

After a few weeks of use, this pedal is proving to be an excellent Swiss Army knife. It certainly does not replace real pedals and amps (I have it all at home), but it allows me to work for MIDI at work (or elsewhere).

Only real limits:
- Power (smaller than the G3) that does not exceed 5 pedals at once. Amp 2 pedals being considered, I am very often limited in complex configurations.
- Unable to edit the pedal from a computer. But I'm pretty sure this pedal is configurable in Midi mode. Notice to developers ...
