For my config, look at my profile ...
What motivated my choice?
After reading the features of the beast, the question becomes a bit superfluous, but the details are in the overall opinion.
UTILIZATION
The installation was done without any problems and yet I feared the worst because of the ALi chipset on my laptop.
No configuration to do. There are only soft in the ASIO control panel, and Hard direct monitoring, the sample rate, the sensitivity of the 2 combos taken of the front, the input gain 3 / 4 and the volume of the headset, the manual does can be as clear, brief, and in my case English. On the top panel of the rack, there is the internal block diagram of the card, it is convenient. No conflict for the moment, but I am just beginning to use it, I would supplement the topic later.
10 at the moment so
GETTING STARTED
Drivers version 1.0 for now, not yet updated (well I think), but it really looks super stable. I am to 9 ms latency but I have not tested the card in depth, I think I can go below. Similarly, I have yet to try to save over 44K, but my next project will probably 88.2K or 48K in in. Of course I will test the 192K, but just to see if it works ... too much disk space and only (?!?) 6 inputs and 6 outputs used.
I would come to say more in a few weeks
OVERALL OPINION
I always wanted to migrate to a mobile architecture, so after buying my laptop, I had a good sound card to work ...
Maps USB1 is too limited because of the size of the bus, I was left so that the somution USB2 or Firewire. Very few USB2 card on the market and as Firewire is popular and works well ...
I still have the choice of the model.
I need more entries because I have a supernova expander with 8 separate outputs, then you can use it, and then I also work with other people, so at least 4 inputs (2 for the supernova and 2 others my partner to live by example. For 2 or 4 outputs could be enough.
Morality, I was left not too many choices .... not about to invest € 1,000 in a Motu 828 MKII, the Firewire 410 M-Audio does Posed as 2 analog inputs (c vaiment no two inputs and 8 outputs! ), ...
Short little choice in the end, but somehow it was not too serious because the FA-101 I immediately typed in the eye ...
The advantage of these entries is that I can use all the outputs of my expander (1 per part multitimbral) and connect directly to the FA-101. I use my MIDI Remote Controller 25 to mix all the tracks, so it's as if I was using a numerical table.
Now I can sell my desk and I frankly clean mix my audio
She also works independently (I mean without a computer) and therefore becomes a true portable blender (too bad that all entries do not have gain settings by ...); cons on my config, it requires be powered by the industry in any case ... We can not have everything, but I think that all firewire cards are in the same case.
The - of a map so to speak:
- The input gain knob 3 / 4 is poorly positioned at the rear of the rack in the connectors and it is very small.
- 5/6/7/8 entries do not have knobs for gain settings.
- The card must be supplied by the sector.
Most of the card:
- There is too much!
I'm not going réétaler on the technical side, but frankly the sound is really insane, and use a treat.
The radius of the superfluous, but does not spoil anything, I think of all the cards I've seen is the one that has the most mouth
Value, it's really over the Firewire 410 on the basis of features (2 analog inputs, again I do not understand ...). I also think it's worth a shot over the motu motu 828MKII because if may have more direct monitoring functions, the FA-101 is really cheaper. Jai a friend who at the motu, I'll take the test quality at home and I will tell you.
