« A disaster ... »
Published on 07/27/11 at 08:48Comprehensive connectivity, I bought it to replace my very old Yamaha DSP 2416.
UTILIZATION
First rub. The drivers are an absolute nullity. Absolutely useless in a professional environment. Yet, after years on my 2416 I was accustomed to DSP drivers whose development was abandoned. But here, congratulations! Of regular updates, of course, but do not solve anything.
So using the Firestudio can be defined as a random experiment. One day it works, then it's a hassle for 1 week. Yet I have tried everything including an OS installation. Nothing to do.
When it works the latency is quite low.
GETTING STARTED
The installation can be a nightmare if the drivers you play tricks. Especially when you make an update to the firmware of the FPGA.
OVERALL OPINION
I use it for 1 year and every day I tell myself that I should sell this stuff.
What I like least
1) catastrophic drivers (in Windows I said, I know for MacOSX)
2) the manufacturing quality is not terrible, after a year and a half use half of the knobs has vied spit up off the sound. Yet this device has not left my studio.
What I like most
Characteristics, connectors, neutral preamps
With experience, I would do certainly not the choice. Besides, I think I will stay away as much as possible of any audio product using a Firewire port in favor of a PCI solution.
