Best value:
Excellent
All information has been given previously ....
UTILIZATION
- Installation on Mac OSX Snow Leopard very simple: just get the latest driver from the Alesis website. Recognized directly in Logic Pro or Garage Band.
- Think about buying a FireWire 400 (output table) / 800 (input Macbook pro from 2010 to 2011) or an adapter.
The use of the table is very simple! not need to open the manual (although I have to do it for my old Mackie CFX12 or routing is different)
SOUNDS
The microphone preamps are OK, they just blow into a corner, but whatever the table in these budgets, we must avoid to go that far!
Although not parametric mids (frequency setting), the 3-band EQ is effective.
Unclear whether the console is transparent, it depends very much on the sound system on which the branch, microphones used, the quality of cables ....
But for me, connected to my system Powerworks Powo (2 satellites + subwoofer amplified 15 "), the sound is very correct, and does not make me regret my Mackie CFX12 was a very good restaurant at any level.
OVERALL OPINION
I use it for four months, after having had a Mackie CFX12 was a very good restaurant, very full at any level (EQ, connection options, subgroups, EQ on the master, and More to insert). I sold it because I wanted a table allowing me to record a demo in a home studio or live concert .... this is the big advantage of the large Alesis, multitrack recording.
Use:
- Conc sound bar type '/ small rooms (200 people) (connected to a Powerworks Powo)
- Home studio recording / live
Feedback:
Sound:
- It works very well, despite the lack of parametric equalizer mediums.Il do not need to insert (add a compressor on a track or other) because the table does not offer! One to connect AUX returns, so everyone will have the same mix of return (if zikos are demanding, it can be a problem)
But for concerts in places small (about 100-200pers max) is sufficient. I think just buy a rack to have 8 preamps / microphone jack, because you can not connect stereo microphone jack on the table
Home studio:
Nickel! so convenient to have the ability to record two 16 tracks simultaneously, with good sound, and no gallery for the configuration.
Note that even sound: buy 8 preamp microphone provided for cases where I need to record 16 tracks simultaneously microphones.
Summary of Benefits:
- Compact size and light weight
- Super stable firewire interface on Mac OS 10.8 Snow Leopard
- Multitrack recording (separate tracks) 16 tracks = 2 18pistes!
- Bargain price
- Integrated multi-effects
- Ease of use
- Much cheaper than a sound card with 16 inputs!
- Can serve as home studio sound (with some limitations though)
Summary of disadvantages:
- No insert (can be a problem for the sound system)
- No parametric midrange EQ (useful for certain instruments to sound live)
- Effects not definable, but fortunately the 100 presets provide a good variety of different reverbs (which I use most in PA)
- In only 2 (1 for the internal multi-effect one another (for example to connect a return)
- No graphic EQ on the master (very useful in sound)
- It has 8 mic inputs with preamps and 4 stereo input jack (ie 8 input jack mono ).... I would have preferred more input and less stereo microphones ... but what is done in this price range.
REVIEW: excellent value for money, with some limitations for the sound (only if you want to make large rooms)
Run buy it! FireWire version is no longer marketed, replaced by the USB2.0 version. You can find the firewire version very cheaply used, jump at the chance!
