The CMS 1000-3 has six mono channels with features, which are arranged in a traditional way, with XLR input connectors on the top panel. A separate input and balanced line insert jack (which can be used to provide direct output, pre-EQ) are next to the XLR, with input level control and a low-cut filter switch 80Hz . The first new feature of the CMS 1000-3 appears at this stage as a voice filter preset button marked the equalizer. This applies a gentle nudge below and above 300 Hz to 2 kHz, with a small cut (a smooth curve asymmetrical to a maximum depth of about 2 dB) between the two, and may be used in addition other EQ controls. It's a pretty sweet indeed, in the whole, and I liked the speech, I found that it added a touch of warmth and clarity - nothing dramatic, but it is there if you want.

The EQ section has a feature three standard bands, with shelving controls for LF and HF, and a mid-band swept section covering the range from 100Hz to 8kHz. All three bands operate smoothly and, for me, in exactly the right places. There is a good degree of control available and knobs feel "low gear" in the sense that there are no abrupt changes throughout the range of adjustment. The amount of overlap between the three regions EQ also feels right.

The remaining four channels for stereo sources, and have a pair of TRS balanced inputs per channel, hence the total number of 10. The number of CMS 1000-3 channel channel is not quite the same the total number of entries available for mixing, however, as each stereo also has a separate preamp channel (with phantom power available), which can be used as a mono channel if necessary - a very useful feature, especially when you realize that these microphone inputs each have a dedicated input level control and can be used simultaneously with the stereo line inputs, providing four additional inputs and taking the number of analog sources to mix up to 14. it is true that these additional inputs from all channels 7-14 facilities such as EQ and routing, but it's still a potential free card.
