input 1&2 vs. 3&4 on a Focusrite 18i8

There appear to be some small differences between the front panel inputs 1&2 and 3&4 on the 18i8. I can't quite make out from the literature what I should expect. Could someone who has one please enlighten me? I'm hoping I can just put 1/4" line levels into all four.
