Beyond the Box (HL02501419 / $12.99) is designed to “help guitarists break out of their blues rut and approach their instrument with a fresh perspective.” Feiten teaches you “how to break beyond the tried-and-true and stretch the familiar by crafting blues solos with an emphasis on variations in harmony, rhythm, melody, tone, and dynamics.”
The blues solo is approached like a story, with a beginning, a development, and an end, with instruction on how to build each section. The CD includes recorded demonstrations by Feiten of every example, plus slowed-down versions of each solo and five jam tracks.
Feiten has played with the likes of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Stevie Wonder, Rickie Lee Jones, Gregg Allman and Aretha Franklin, to name but a few.
Other Cherry Lane publications to his credit include: Warm-Ups and Exercises for the Blues/Rock Guitarist (HL02501422 / Book/CD / $12.99) and Funky Rhythm Guitar (HL02501393 / DVD / $24.99).
