Roger Mayer Voodoo Vibe

This is all-analog technology, created by Roger Mayer, the guy that build Hendrix's pedals for him, so you know it's going to have some great sounds.

Vibrato,Chorus, Tremolo, and Univibe tones all live in this box. Most people will use it for the Univibe tones, which it frankly nails, but the other sounds are great as well.

One nice perk on this box is that it has two outputs, so the signal can be split to multiple amps.




UTILIZATION

This is either a tone tweaker's dream or worst nightmare - it's a DEEEEEP box. There are SO many sounds in this. Each knob is highly interactive with the others, so moving one a millimeter over can change the sound character drastically, or change the way the other knobs function.

The manual is very good at explaining each function, but the only way to know how to dial in the sound on this pedal is experience. Incredible tones await inside, but one might consider marking their box to retain favorite settings, or take pictures with a camera phone for easy recall.

SOUND QUALITY

I mainly use this pedal for Univibe purposes, to cop a Jimi Hendrix "Band of Gypsys" tone, or a Robin Trower tone. I have yet to play a Univibe-style pedal that sounded as close to those two legends as this pedal does. My favorite guitar tone of all time is Hendrix's "Machine Gun", and this pedal can do that nice, chewing warble to a T.

The other effects are great, but I don't see someone owning this box just for the tremolo or chorus type effects. The Univibe tone is where the magic lie in this unit.

OVERALL OPINION

I LOVE the Univibe tones. The drawbacks to this pedal are the massive tweakability (I know, it's a good thing, but not easy to get "the" sound right away), and the sheer physical size! This thing takes up a third of my large pedalboard! I have honestly never opened it up to look at the guts, but I hope they are using all that space, because the box itself is just massive.

The pedal isn't made anymore in this incarnation, so they are a bit hard to find, and pricey when one is located. But for Univibe glory, this pedal is king. If you need to get the Jimi vibe down, this pedal is the real deal.

Roger Mayer's Voodoo Vibe is a versatile guitar effect pedal that consists of chorus, tremolo and vibrato effects. The pedal is an analog one with a ton of control over your sound. The pedal has an interesting array of different 1/4" connections for input, HW and buffered outputs, and a set for external speed, which I'm not really sure what they are for as I've never used them. The pedal requires a nine volt power supply and isn't rack mountable as it's a foot pedal.

UTILIZATION

There is a whole lot that can be done with the Roger Mayer Voodoo Vibe pedal in terms of utilization. For starters there's a mode knob that's labeled "function" that allows you to choose between tremolo, vibrato, and chorus effects. Next there are parameters for speed range, speed, intensity, symmetry, bias, and output. Between the different speed ranges and general effect modes there are pretty much an endless amount of effects possible with this nifty little box. A manual is probably only necessary if you're a beginner, and if you're using this pedal I doubt you're a beginner.

SOUND QUALITY

The sound of the Roger Mayer Voodoo Vibe is nothing less than outstanding. All of the effects on the box are top notch, and they can all be manipulated in a variety of ways as well. I like the box best for the tremolo effect personally, but the chorus and vibrato are awesome as well and are just about as good sounding as any other effect of their type that I've used. I love how much control is available within each category of effects, making the possibilities quite vast within a very realistic and full sounding effects box.

OVERALL OPINION

The only reason that I can't give the Roger Mayer Voodoo Vibe a 10/10 is because of the price. While it's certainly one of the best pedals of it's kind, the price makes it unattainable for most users including myself. I'm glad to have used it in a recording studio setting, but I wouldn't mind owning it if it was a bit cheaper. If you can afford this pedal, it's probably worth it, but most unfortunately will not be able to...

A vibe that makes Tremolo and Chorus. Fully analog, hand-assembled in UK. Pedal old to regain his 70s but with a power supply outlet 9Volt for possible inclusion in his pedalboard. A metal case, the switches and potentiometers sturdy and quiet ... pfiou, a gem!

UTILIZATION

The knobs turn but not all have the same function in vibe mode, tremolo or chorus ... In short, be gardening with his hands and think with his ears. The sound is there right away but you better look for her quietly at home and record their settings ... not really cut out for this beast live, yet it is tru bypass and you can hop the output gain for a booster little sound (solo for example). I lowered the rating by one point, but against heart.

SOUND QUALITY

So it's more than perfect there! the sound is monstrous, pure analog but a fart breath. The chorus is typically that of Gilmour Darkside of the moon, the vibe is smack bang the "bridge of sighs" from Robin Trower. The tremolo is powerful and comes down very low, up to full grinder. Pedal breathtaking both in its sound qualities by its immense possibilities. All guitars spend with a predilection for strat Hendrix oblige! This is for me the best vibe in the market and worse that is all!

OVERALL OPINION

I bought there 5 or 6 years, I've tried to shovel, TR2 tremolo, chorus Boss or Ibanez and even a true Univibe 1969 ... hello away! The value for money is EX-CE-LENT! 250 € you do not have not one, two but three pedals superior. It lacks a TAP Tempo and a memory function to be perfect but it would be more in the pure analog. So yes, if I were doing this I will ever purchase, for sure.

OVERALL OPINION

It'll be two years that I have this Roger Mayer Voodoo Vibe and overall I'm pretty happy. But for those who want to make this acquisition and can not try it (rare are the stores that have the Bouzin in stock) that's my opinion that can help or not to opt for this solution.
First, proponents of digital technology can immediately get their way! Here we are in the analog and you can hear everything now, we have a very organic and very grain of music that does not distort your instrument either Start or LP, the grain of the guitar is respected. Let us now detail the three modes of the machine.

Tremolo: Nothing to say it's great! More comfortable all the same effects in the soft, style blues in the shredder furious. The fast tremolos are of course useful but the available waveforms are sine and triangle not square (for best effects machinegun).

Vibrato: This is the function that gives it its name (type Univibe) and it's pretty conclusive, however, with, for me, made better in a speed faster than slow.

Chorus: This is where we should not be mistaken. Me, I was disappointed with the chorus because I was looking for a kind BOSS CE1 chorus (the reference). The chorus is very well produced but very taken with the top knob "bias" that alters the sound at all and for now looking for the magic sound I have not yet found.
As I listened to Sonic Retro proguitarshop and there on it sounds (or even the DLS Ultra Chorus)!

So for those seeking the ultimate chorus, I think there are much better.

Finally, for those who want that sound effects on it to avoid (a lot of parameters and thus opportunities, a lot of patience), for those who like me, looking for a replica CE1, no way too.
As against the quality is there, not breathing, from analog and pure juice for those who enjoy tweaking the pedals for the horse to fuck an atmosphere killing (Hendrix and Frusciante way), it is the grave! Moreover, apart from the grain of the chorus is not what I was looking, I keep this pedal in my set. I'll buy the latest Sonic Retro!
Finally the price is high but three pedals with this quality, not that much!
One last important thing, all effects can be used with clean sounds like distorted sounds in the extreme.
28/05/2009: More and more I use it I tell myself that this effect is essential and higher quality grain that is so special, both organic and if so clean it can shape at will . When we spent some time on the machine, it has its own settings and the sound is amazing. One can even use it as a phasing with the appropriate adjustment. In short, even if you never have the sound of a jazz chorus, you'll have a fucking the Voodoo Vibe. I now that sounds RetroSonic cash, as a chorus or a BossCE1 JC120 but even if we get the grain without difficulty, the quality is still below the Roger Mayer and especially the possibilities are much more limited!
