TC Electronic RPT-1 Nova Repeater

The Nova Repeater Delay is a stripped down version of TC Electronics Nova Delay. It has high and low inputs, and mono or stereo outputs. Five knobs and several buttons allow several different settings on this pedal. A Delay knob adjusts the amount of delay time. The Feedback knob adjust how many repeats happen before the delay fades away. A Tone knob allows you to roll off the high end EQ of the delays. The Mod knob allows you to adjust among detuned chorus, no modulation and vibe. The FX Level knob allows you to adjust the volume of the delay in relationship to the dry signal. Delay times range from 20 ms to 1200 ms.

UTILIZATION

This pedal is built pretty sturdy, but I wouldn’t beat on it like something from Boss or MXR. The incorporation of a HI and LO input allows this pedal to be used in front of an amp or in the loop of an amp which is great. Stereo outs allow you to get that big stereo sound. TC included a spillover button that allows the delays to trail off after the pedal has been bypassed, which is hard to find on pedals. There is a kill dry button that allows you to only hear the delayed sounds. I don’t find this useful, but some may. There are several types of delay available similar to those found on a Line 6 DL4, in a much smaller package: studio, analog, tape, dynamic, reverse, ping pong. A division button lets you play rhythmic delays and get that “Edge” vibe going on. Tap tempo allows you to keep those rhythms right in time.

SOUND QUALITY

This pedal sounds super. It does a great modulated delay sound, and you can choose between a detuned chorus effect or a more pulsey vibe sound. I like the chorus better myself, I feel it’s more lush. The spillover button is just incredible to, I need trails on my delay. I hate when pedals don’t have that, it feels very unnatural for the delay to just shut off without trailing off. Tap tempo works great on this pedal and the audio tapping does as well. This is my first time using the audio tapping in a pedal, and it seems pretty cool, but I’d rather use the normal tap tempo switch personally. There is no loss in tone or added noise with this delay, just lush delayed sounds. I think it’s great and easily hangs up there with the Line 6 DL4.

OVERALL OPINION

Overall I really like this pedal. I don’t see how they packed all these features into this small package, but I’m sure glad they did. I’m using a DL-4 now due to the availability of the presets, but if I weren’t this would be my Swiss Army delay. I was a little nervous about the durability of the pedal before I got it, but it’s been very reliable. This is way better than any Boss pedal I’ve ever used, and being in the same price range it would be a no brainer for me to pick the Nova Repeater every time.

This is a digital delay that features high and low inputs (so it can work in line or instrument level effect loops), stereo outs, Delay, Feedback, Tone, and level knobs, Spillover, and Kill dry buttons.

The delay has 6 different modes, studio, analog, tape, dynamic, reverse, and pingpong.

It also features a modulation knob, where you can add chorus or vibrato to the delays.

This delay has a dedicated tap tempo button. This was the feature that really sold me on this pedal. Because I could easily set the tempo on the fly.

The tap tempo also has different divisions you can select (quarter, dotted eighth, and eighth note triplets) as well as a dual delay feature (quarter and eighth, quarter and dotted eighth, quarter and eighth note triplet). Which is an awesome feature.

The bypass is really great too, its transparent.

UTILIZATION

The pedal is really easy to use, everything is very clearly labeled and easy to use. I never had a need to open the manual.

SOUND QUALITY

This delay pedal is awesome. Every delay mode sounds awesome and just like you'd expect it to. Like I said before the bypass is super transparent, and the high/low inputs made it so it'll sound good in whatever type of loop your amp has.

The weakest part of the pedal is the modulation, mostly because its so subtle its barely noticeable. But I hate modulation on my delays so this didn't matter to me.

OVERALL OPINION

This is honestly the best stand alone delay pedal I've owned. The only other unit that sounded as good was the delays in the TC G Major II. I love this pedal and would recommend it to any one who is looking for a well built, durable, great sounding delay. With a price point around 150 bucks you cannot go wrong.

All cara have already been mentioned. Going a bit further, I think this format is really cool pedal. Much less intrusive than the twin format with boss was still enough room for naviquer aisémment between the (many) settings and enough space between the 2 footswiths not tangle brushes.

The pedal is also well endowed with connectors with a low output to make it go directly into the amp and high output to block it in the effects loop. For my part, connected in high in the loop, I did not notice any significant loss of output or modification of specific tone; the abscence of truebypass therefore bother me at all.

UTILIZATION

The config is very simple and allows you to go far enough in use. The big advantage of the pedal (and why I bought it!) Is being able to choose different types of repeats (black, dotted eighth, dotted eighth black +, etc ...).

So it's a very nice toy to experiment or to give an electro tinge with some adjustments.

To enrich the content of the previous posts already very complete, I'm going to quibble.
His only "fault" is that the face of fairly sophisticated use can be done with the rhythmic subdivisions, it lacks a truly accurate tempo settings.

The tap tempo is very practical with its dedicated swith is nickel for standard use of the delay a little out of his dry guitar, or for reasons rytmiques short and / or fast.
on the other hand, some precision is lacking for work on complex echoes. Eg for a slow adjustment black + eighth note triplet with effect volume thoroughly and lots of repetition, pedal deserved a manual tempo setting with display. Rehearsals would then be perfectly supported in time with the rhythm session, which is hard to achieve with the tap.

In fact, it is not a default because it is really in a corner of the pedal with this type of use. Let's just say that AC would have been the icing on the cake . Note that the Novea Delay model from TC offers this option, but the toy is not at the same rate ...

In short, it's 100% utilization level, but I wanted 110%!

SOUND QUALITY

The toy is all digital. To me, it does not bother me at all. I find the sound excellent bills and anyway I like sharp, crisp repetitions. I think the "analog" setting is great taf to give a slightly warmer side.

The slap back delay to ultra long, solo hard rock rhythmic kitsh the block party, U2 Pink Floyd, anything goes, and with gusto. The tone knob is dramatically on the effect. The chorus / tremolo are dispensable but can add or lighter coloration rather nice.

You can do anything with the nova repeater is what I like. Its only limitation is that you can not really do start to spin the big blow to répétitons knobs, like a MXR Carbon Copy or DD6. To see if this is important in your use.

OVERALL OPINION

It's been two years since he has not left my set. His versatility, quality and numerous parameters have really convinced me and I'm not about to part.
I hesitate to chopper me a carbon copy in addition to just hack the appearance, but it is the whim of rich!

I love this delay, I had a nova Delay before (And to think I do not know anymore why I sold it to move to the ...)

I use it mainly for light and short delay to give scale arpeggios on where in slapback for rhythm rock well.

The tone knob is really something great, you choose the color of the echo of an echo can go pretty dark to super bright digital delay, there is something for everyone! A great versatile delay but we must love digital sound, which I personally find very good.
