UTILIZATION

The configuration of this pedal is very simple, very instinctive in fact. No need for manual, just 3 buttons to tweak (the volume is excluded ...)
Is easily obtained from large well metal just push the bass and gives a sound very heavy and greasy, or treble to give her a very sharp, really sharp.
However, I do not think you can ask for much more to this pedal and it is really made for metal, hard rock limit, but at this versatility is not the right thing.

I use it with a 202 equipped with the KH kit EMG Zakk Wylde and a vox amp 30watts.

We are thus dealing a distortion pedal of all analogue is most standard, a gain equa two bands and a volume, in a housing boss traditional, practical and above all reliable trs.
I regret as the lack of other adjustable in equa, but this pedal is so intuitive trs. Other than that, nothing to report!


UTILIZATION

Simple operation, no need for manual, the batteries are long enough, we get immediately a good sound, even if it is difficult to get out a large number of trs this little box.


SOUND QUALITY

So as we would have suspected this pedal is dedicated to big, big sound even trs. It is almost impossible to get a melodious crunch, but you can play nanmoins everything that goes from hard rock to grind, to thrash, death ...

Strictly speaking, this pedal has lots of gain, but little breath trs, which is appreciable. It also has big bass and treble trs sharp, which limit, but because it sounds great for everything that is "metal".

Note that it really colors the sound, we recognize very easily the grain. I played for eight months on a Peavey ValveKing, but also on other amps pretty cheap, and it did sound good these little stews casually!


OVERALL OPINION

I used it for 8 months, and yes I t satisfied. Trs for a price lower, although not very versatile pedal that offers the trs enjoyable music for all muscles. Not as good an all-tube high gain of course, and the only reason I sell it (I bought a Laboga Mr Hector, a sense that a head is better than 1600 euros a disto 100 euros <img class="smiley" src="https://fr.audiofanzine.com/images/audiofanzine/interface/smileys/icon_wink.gif" alt="" /> )
I would do this choice, quality and value for money is excellent compared to the rest of the pedal in this price range.

SOUND QUALITY

Very large disto very typical metal must be somewhat subtle to find a setting that suits his style more aggressive as the stoner example, but there are ways anyway.
The low fat sends heavy well, though a bit too mushy if you push too hard.
The high, it soon becomes garish, use with moderation, even shred.
I do not rise too much the level, like 50% or a little more, if not hello breath and feedback (in conjunction with the gain).
Same for the gain too dirty sound when you push a little.
Less versatile than the MT-2, it sounds less "honeycomb", unless (again) is pushed too much high. Compared to MT-2, I prefer the texture of the ML-2.
I would have liked a built-in noise gate and a medium, it is not every noise gate and eq in the basic stuff (gift to my little fledgling guitarist ...).

Rings used on a Peavey Bandit 112 Transtube an HH VS Musician 212 Combo and a few other amps (even) with a cheap Ibanez RG EMG81 mounted in rack, home to the handle, or a Gibson Les Paul Jr., an Aria Pro 2 Cardinal and a Variax, I note a great influence on the pedal of his color, it makes "good" sounding anything ... if we do not listen too closely, after which everything is a matter of taste.

I use it with an Ibanez Prestige Series RG-2550z. With Di Marzio. But I have the same sound with an Ibanez SA series. This pedal is extremely colorful sound and finally the rest of the stuff does not matter as long as it has Watts output.

This pedal doesn't suck. I wouldn't say it is terrible but it is still a very lousy Metal distortion pedal. There are several pedal out there that do a decent metal tone for a pedal but this really isn't one of them. I do have to say that pedal is leaps and bounds over the Boss Heavy Metal pedal that was their first attempt and metal.

UTILIZATION

Pretty easy pedal to master. It has four control knobs that interact withing the tonal range. The Level knob is going to control your volume output, the Low knob is going to control your low EQ frequencies, the High is going to control the high EQ frequencies, and the Dist knob is going to control the gain/distortion for the unit. The EQ knobs are a bit different than the Metal Zone in that they are more Mids focused I feel.

I am more pleased with the tonal dynamics of this pedal tremendously more than the Heavy Metal pedal they did years ago. This one isn't as thin or metallic sounding as the Heavy Metal but still sounds brittle overall which is hard to get away from with most Boss pedals.

SOUND QUALITY

Try to keep the Dist knob down or around the 12:00 position because there is a ton of gain on tap and the more you increase it the more is becomes muddy and messy. As a general rule with this pedal, keep all control knobs around the noon position. Everything else seems to go too far in one direction or another.

Try this pedal with a Les Paul and a Marshall JCM 800 and it will get a good boost in a clean type setting. The EQ boosting capabilities especially in the midrange part is great.

OVERALL OPINION

This is a pretty inexpensive pedal that will get you a decent starter metal tone. Your not going to get this pedal on any professional stage. This is for someone looking to get into the guitar and needs a cheap metal tone. For new they come in at around $90. Not going to break the bank but not going to be your final destination. If you can afford it and don't want to buy a metal amp then try out a Zvex Metal pedal. That pedal is pretty nice.

A little advice guitarist, take a look at the "Twin Tube Mayhem Seymour Duncan home. It is a tube distortion for the "True Metal".

OVERALL OPINION

You'll understand that this pedal does not stay long in my pedalboard.

I had most of the large distortion Boss (HM-2 HM-3, MT-2, MD-2, FZ-2 and ML-2).
This is the worst of all.

If you like this kind distos in there, better get the MT-2, it has the advantage of having a 4-band equalizer.

On occasion, you will find cheaper pedals, and sound better.
I would not recommend it.

The Boss ML-2 Metal Core is a distortion pedal aimed for use with metal and heavy rock genres.  This is an analog unit that has both a standard 1/4 inch input and output and like all Boss pedals of this size is powered by either a nine volt power supply or battery.  This isn't a rack mountable unit as it is a foot pedal.

UTILIZATION

Using the Boss ML-2 Metal Core isn't hard at all as it only has some basic parameters.  This is the newer version of some of the older Metal related Boss pedals, so it has a very similar make up.  If you have used any type of distortion pedal I think you'll be able to understand how to use this pedal without any problems.  The pedal simply has four parameters - level, low, high, and distortion.  These are always the basic parameters found on overdrive and distortion pedals, so unless you are an absolute beginner I don't think you will need to study this one too hard or even look at a manual.


SOUND QUALITY

The sound quality of the Boss ML-2 Metal Core is sub par in my opinion.  While it does have a decent metal distortion, there is really only one sound that you can get with it.  Keep in mind that I'm not a huge fan of metal to begin with but tried out this pedal to see what types of tones I could get with it.  I've used the pedal with a Gibson SG and a '76 Fender Twin Reverb, so I think I'm getting a pretty accurate sound from this pedal.  If you are into metal and are looking to get a thick distortion sound for playing this type of music, I wouldn't pass this pedal by, but I can't say that I would recommend this pedal to anyone else based on the sound of it.


OVERALL OPINION

While this pedal is reasonably priced, the fact that I can really only get a single tone from the Boss ML-2 Metal Core makes it quite unappealing for me.  If you are trying to get a big metal sound, this pedal might do the trick for you but I would strongly encourage those interested to look into a variety of distortion pedals as there are a lot of them out there to choose from...
