I got this little beast at my local music shop. Its a great product, so it should be readly available almost anywhere. The unit was about 100 US$.

This thing is GREAT.. it may have the BEST metal sound of all the metal pedals out there. It has a very VERY wide range of gain. You can easly give your sound a bit of fuzz, or enough distortion to hear evey sqeak of your finger on the string (gives feedback at about 80% gain). It also features a 3 band EQ. They cut/boost the signal 15dB (quite a noticible range). The Mid freq is also VARIABLE. With these controls.. you can almost get any type of distortion. Like the name implies though, it is primarally a metal pedal, but its not limited to...…

    Its absolutely perfect.

Like any other Boss pedal, it is very very sturdy.. these things are made to last, from the knobs, to the case, to the jacks.. You can jump on the thing and it wont break. Knobs are pretty hard to break (unless you really try). The signal is pretty much 100% free of noise even at max gain (if you hear a moderate amount noise, its your guitar, or the low quality of your patch chords, with the right stuff, you shouldnt be able to tell if the effect is on or of by the amount of noise)

Its a proffessional quality pedal.. no doubt about it.

If price isnt an issue.. get it...!

When I first began teaching myself to play guitar, I purchased a Crybaby Wah-Wah pedal which proved too much for me to handle so I took into a local guitar shop and traded it in for the Boss Metal Zone MT-2. The pedal was priced at about $75.00 and was a very worthy purchase.

I love this unit. It has 6 different knobs that can produce a huge variety of sounds from light distortion and classic rock to heavy metal. My guitar is a strat with single coil pickups that don't sound great when played directly though my Fender Deluxe 90 amplifier, but, when played through the Metal Zone pedal the sound is much more powerful and pronounced.

I haven't had any problems with this pedal. I've owned it for about a year and have absolutely no complaints.

The construction seems to be very durable. I haven't really stomped around on the pedal too much, but I use it every day and have moved it across the country more than once. It still looks new and hasn't ever given me any problems with the electronics, input/ouptuts, or pedal.

I would recommend this unit to anyone. Like I said above, I'd had it for over a year, have no complaints or problems, and love the sound it gives me. It's modestly priced and well worth the money.

For a one year I owned a guitar processor by Zoom. Zoom had a very horrible hours, especially distortion. And now I bought Metal Zone by BOSS for 89$.

Pedal gives a tube-like distortion. It has a great range of distortion and a cool sound. Like a tube stack sounds!!! Also there is a 3-band equilizer with a parametric middle. It gives you a variety of sound combinations.

Some times I feel that sounds is a few flat. But is a transistor pedal, not tube. And I don't have a tube combo (yet:)) to get a right tone that BOSS is created.

This pedal has a massive metal box (as all BOSS pedals). It has 6 parameters: a low freq boost/cut, a high freq boost/cut, a middle freq boost/cut, a middle freq…

I got this box at Axe Music for I think $180 Can. I heard good things about it from magazines and friends.

I like the crazy ripping sound it gives, and the fact that its so versatile. (Capable of a metal sound to a vintage type rock n' roll sound, even blues.) Its got a really piercing, scream-type sound, which i find is perfect for thrash metal, and roll off the gain a bit and tweak the EQ some, and you can get really sweet grunge sounds too. I also love how i've dropped it down stairs like 50 times and the paint hasnt even chipped.

One thing that i don't like too much is that the Mid control is like a Treble control rather than a Mid. I don't like to play with a lot of mid, so I usually…

I don't like to play with a lot of mid, so I usually keep the control in the middle, anywhere below 5 it sounds like someone put a blanket over your amp. Also I hate that battery life is only like 20 - 30 mins. of playing.

A few words to describe construsction: Bulletproof, indestructable, very solid, all metal (except for knobs), awesome.

If you play metal, get this pedal. If you play anything else, get this pedal. Extemely versatile, kind of like a Les Paul, awesome for any type of music. Sweeeeet screaming distortion.

I had bought the boss MT-2 from Pakistan for Rs.6000 which is round about 60 British pounds from a local vendor and i recommend you buying it for about the same price as well.

To start off, the unit is great. But as the name of the pad is 'Metal Zone', it only plays metal well. The pad is must for people playing Metallica(try master of puppets on this baby and u'll see what i mean) and other hard rock groups. The unit is finished in a cool black design with orange engravings on it which is very cool. The sound qulity is great and about 3 times louder than many processors i have seen.

One thing to keep in mind is that grunge and alternative cannot be played. .The only problem that i experience is excessive unwanted distortion and noise(a lot of static). This seems to be the only problem that i experience although this can be cured by staying at a distance from your amp.

As i have mentioned above , the sound qualiy is far better than any processor or other distortion pedals. The pad is fairly easy to use and excessive battery consumtion can be prevented by pulling the wires off when not in use. You can alter the drive and amount of distrtion as well the level of sound.

I would recommend it as a must for metal heads. The unit is the best available and the price tag is quite reasonable. It is most suited for professional players or experienced players.

I got this item for my good grades but if I was graded on making a desicion on a distortion pedal, i would've gotten an F

the batteries last pretty long and you could knock someone out if you chunk it at them.

Where do I start?! when i first bought it i was trying to install the batteries on it and the part you stomp on to activate it fell off. I called customer support and it took 6 weeks for me to get another one!! It sounds like s#!t to be honest. The only sound you can achieve from this piece of crap is some kinda fuzz. Why didnt they call it a Fuzz pedal for crying out loud? The dist. is either to Dry or too heavy. I play Punk (Blink 182, Green Day.etc) and Hard Rock (AC/DC, Van Hal…

Built out of heavey metal. Better than any other metal pedal, especially DOD.

Insane distortion, if you like heavey metal and you try this pedal, you will buy it, if you got enough for it.

There are many other various samples you can set which is clearly illustrated in the owner's manual. The best thing I like about it is that it can produce clear and yet super heavy distortions like no other. If you like Metalica or Korn, my friend... look no further...

The only thing I hate about MT-2 Metal Zone is that each time I practice with it at home, I bound to be yelled at by someone and have to kick myself out of the house to practice elsewhere before someone else does it...

The MT-2 Metal Zone is designed and built to withstand a direct-hit by a mortar shell or maybe,... be used as a mortar projectile itself.... It is all-metal construction and the all-black colour casing is devilishing awsome...

For those who is looking for a good effect pedal, get the MT-2. For those who is thinking of upgrading their effect pedal, get the MT-2. For those who already owned a effect pedal, TROW it away and GET the MT-2. For those who loves Heavy Metal, For Goodness Sake, Get The Friggin MT-2!!!

it is the most versatile distortion box out there. it can do almost any task you need it to. it supplies distortion from B.B. king, to pantera, and anything in between. it may very well be the best 90 bucks i've ever dropped

the possiblilities are endless! you can get a warm, smooth bluesy sound out of it as well as
an agressive, chunky metal sound. It's an all around versatile piece of equipment that i recommend.

i don't like how it takes forever-and-a-half to get the sound i want, but when i do, it's sweet!

Rugged as a mothertrucker, this bad boy can withstand anything you can throw at it (or throw it at).

Bought from Guitar Center Houston. Paid $90.00.

Very adaptable to different types of metal.

Hard to get that Nu-Metal sound. The closest to a Korn sound I can get is to do the following:

    1. Set the level about half way.
    2. on the equalizer, 1st set of knobs, set the bottom knob all the way up and the top knob to half and on the second set the bottom to about 2/3 and the top to 1/2. I set the distortion knob to 2/3.
    3. Don't turn your pickup volume up too high. I set it at about 1/4 turn and let my amp take care of the rest. This produces the "crunch" and also masks fingering mistakes!
    4. Get a 7-string. You won't get that bottom-end no matter how far you detune a 6-string.…

    sturdy unit.

Good unit, but I'm more interested in finding an amp that has the right distortion built in for Nu-Metal. From what I understand, if you can't afford a mesa boogie road king (what korn used on new album with marshall 1960a cabs), then the Crate GLX1200H would be close for the sound on a budget.

I bought it for Rs 5500

This is the only gadget I have seen that sounds cool when you are playing fret muting
stuffs, eg,Train of concequences(megadeth). The palm muting is super.
It can be made to sound like any other distortion pedals. The thing that makes this pedal so great is its 2 knob equaliser ,I think.

I think this gadget is not made for playing guitar solos because you hear a lot of extra harmonics. The lead parts donot sound so clean like in Ibanez pl-5.

    Nothing to say,just GREAT

If some one wants to be a rock star then I I think he should know what mt-2 is.

    PAID:- Around $130 canadian, eh.

What I like about the Boss mt-2 metal zone is that it has a very wide range of sounds you can reach. This is what I hate about other revews, they don't name bands you can play. Okay heres the deal, you CAN play pantera, slayer, metallica and Classic rock like AC/DC and Guns and roses. That is a pretty wide range so huray for that. I like the fact that it has a wide range of sound but thats about it.

Okay... number 1...If you are gonna play metal the this is deffenetly for you BUT IF you are into nu metal (like I am) then tough luck. The metal zone just falls short of reaching that Slipknot, Soulfly, System of a down, Hatebreed(sorta nu metal) and Slaves on dope sounds. Also if you live in canada (Best country on earth) thenget ready to pay not $130 but more like $250. This thing will drive you crazy with the humming/buzzing/static. I use a small 15 watt amp so thats probably the problem but once the pedal is stomped it will give you tones of backround noice. Oh ya... about that stupid comment about spending $250 thats because the other $110 will be spent on a noise suppresor. Thier are cheaper ones but lets face it, Boss noise suppresors are the best. Also (I know this has been said over and over in other reveiws) get an adapter. Sucks batterys...blah blah blah.

Bulit like a tank and all that garbage that people in the other reviews say (geez can't they think of something original?) Ya... great construction.

Okay... Good range for metal, bad for nu metal. U can still play that stuff it's just that u'll have to lower ur tuning slightly (which is why i got a distortion pedal in the end anyway, so i wouln't have 2). Now the other big thing is the fight between the digitech metal master and the metal zone, well...IF U WANNA PLAY NU METAL GO WITH THE DIGITECH, IF U WANT METAL THEN GO WITH THE METAL ZONE. IF U WANT BOTH THEN GO WITH THE MEGA DISTORTION PEDAL FROM BOSS.
You CAN make the metal zone work for nu metal but it just takes a lot more tweaking. and don't forget to buy a noise supperssor. Oh lastly. thier is a big fuss about "well the digi tech is made in china" or something like that. Well The metal zone is built in tiwan do big deal. I hope u have enjoyed my senceless babbaling...Good bye. Need any more info e-mail me. I gave it a 4 because it's good for what it says it does, metal. so i can't take marks off becuase I wanted to play a diffrent style. But it Just wans't what I was looking for.

$120 from a Guitar Center in Florida.

I've read a lot of reviews that very from one extreme to the other, but I have to say that it's definitely one of the better solid state distortion pedals out there. I think most of the people who complain about this pedal haven't heard the rest of the offerings out there.

Very unusable in recording situations. The hiss this pedal generates makes it pretty much a live-only pedal. Too easy to dial in that horrible all high-end distortion and speaker woofing bass sound.

Like every Boss pedal, the construction is top notch. I've still got Boss pedals that are 20 years old and they are still working perfectly.

I'm a recording engineer so I get to experience the horrors of beginner guitar sounds all the time and this pedal is heroin to the newbie guitarist. Have you ever heard a guitar part that is so distorted you can't even make out the notes that are being played? It was probably recorded with a MT-2. It's a versitile pedal when used responsibly, but it's still just a solid stated distortion unit. Let's face it folks, this pedal was designed for the beginner guitarists to sound like they're playing through 100 Crate stacks at once. Once they try it, they're hooked and it's hard to get them to come back.

The equalizer is great!! Great distortion for everykind of metal even if you like it with a lot of bass!!

uhmm.... there's a little noise when you aren't playing but that can be helped with a Boss noisesuppressor and it eat's batteries as hell!!

Great construction and the best quality.
    just like it's indestructible

Excellent pedal for every metal-head that likes a great distortion!!

Before I got the MT-2 I had an Ibanez Smash Box. I was really getting tired of the bland sound and I needed something with seathing distortion. I'm in to the metalcore/hardcore scene and I noticed everyone was getting some terrific distortion off this piece of equipment. I went to Jackson's Music store in Winston-Salem, NC and bought one for about $95.00.

I absolutely love this pedal. I've tried so many and this is the toughest little thing with such great quality distortion. I've had it for a year now and I've begun to play regular metal and it seems like it can play any genre of rock. There are plenty of settings on this pedal for it to conform to any type of metal. The diagram that comes in the box gives you settings for different genres of rock from hardcore to soft rock!

As with any distortion pedal there is hum, and a little feedback (not bad at all) in the background when playing. I took care of that completely with a Boss Noise Suppressor (NS-2), which is also a great buy.

I have dropped this pedal on the road, friends have stepped on it, a table fell on it, and it still works perfectly. The quality of sound still remains and it has a 2 year warranty. The Smash Box couldn't withstand that much of a beating.

Man, the only distortion pedal that can overpower this one would be an MT-3, if they ever make one. This is a must have for all you metal and rock fans that are looking for seathing distortion that can hold its tone.

I got this pedal from my bassist's brother for 40$ (Can.)and I can say I got it cheap compared to the real price (about 200 bucks)

What I like about it? It just kicks major ass! Since I am a metal-head, it perfecly fits me. The extreme gain with the 4 band EQ is simply amazing. It can emulate sounds like metallica, slipknot or korn(7-strings rulez).

The only thing I could complain about is that if you don't have noise reduction, you have some hiss when you crank your amp.

It wouldn't break in an explosion. I have it since 1997 and it still works great!!!

    1-Buy it
    2-Set it
    3-Crank It!!!!

I baught this unit at Guitar Center for $89.99. I baught it cause I needed a pedal that can get great metal tone but not muddy up when cranked.

This pedal is kick a$$. I suguest anyone whos into metal should get this pedal. You can get anywhere from a classic AC/DC to Slayer and beyond, putting it through a 4' 12" cab just inhances its tonal capabilities.

I havnt found anything yet, its an all aropund great pedal, and for 89.99, its a must have for any metal inthutheis.

great quality, sturdy, heavy unit, made in the USA, what more can I say.

Perfect pedal for anyones whos into metal, or in to rock for that matter. Very versitle, great tones, good price, great derability

THis thing sounds fuking awsome, i love the eqalizer knobs on it, it helps you give alot of tones and stuff, great for stuff like slipknot to bad relgion, just fuk around with the eq knobs, and this thing is a fuking tank too i know this dude that's had his metal zone since the 70's.....good battery life too

i don't liek that' it's usually $90 which is a little over priced for it, if i had $90 i would probably get a digitech metal master but if you want quality get boss if you want a lot of different sounds and are to lazy to use the eq knobs get the metal master

Bought it from Sound Control music store in Sheffield. I paid £60 GB for it, but I got some money off because I go there so much, and I think usually it's meant to be £70-ish.

The thing I like the most is the control layout, which gives you a High and Low frequency, as well as a dual Mid-frequency control so you can adjust the level and the frequency of the Mids. This makes it absolutely perfect for the scooped-mid sound that I wanted for metal, but the thing comes with a set of presets to use, so you can do anything from Rainbow (think "Man on the Silver Mountain") and 4th-album Led Zeppelin sounds to full-on metal (everything I do from Iron Maiden to Megadeth and also drop-tuning stuff …

It also has the invaluable virtue of sounding good with things like triads and ringing open notes, which some distortions sound crap on; think of those earthy-sounding open G and F#7 chords on the title track from Black Sabbath's first record.

It bypasses really well too, and I run my guitar straight into it and then into the clean channel of my Marshall AVT20, which is perfect for all the stuff I do. I'll review this again maybe when I get around to adding a wah pedal into the setup.

Nothing at all that can think of - perhaps the tone isn't as "Dynamic" as the Danelectro "Fab Tone", but I decided on the Metal Zone over that because of the great range and versatility, and the plain "No-bullshit"ness that Boss have over Danelectro, and because overall the Zone is beytter. The Fab Tone is good for poppier music, but the Metal Zone is the best all-round distortion I've ever come across.

It's Boss, what more do you need to know?!
It would take at least a nuclear holocaust to stop this thing working (although I'd kill anyone who tried to do that to my 'Zone - it's been signed by the guys from Blaze!), it's been dropped, kicked, it's had things dropped ON it, and obviously it has to deal with my size 12's stomping on it every day, and not a single scratch so far, and never lets me down.

Only thing I'd say is, get an AC adaptor for it since the thing eats batteries like Cartman eats pies, and te sound of the thing is too good to lose because of a flat battery.

Bottom line, if you play metal, especially if you want crunch and great harmonics for rhythm and great sustain and lead tone for soloing, there's onl one way to go:

    METAL ZONE IT!

(Did I mention that it comes in a really cool matte black casing? one of that gay-ass looking yellow OD-1 crap for me).
