This pedal is uniquely painted in mostly black with blood spattered graphics on the sides. I play metal all the way but not necessarily Death Metal. However that doesn't mean this pedal isn't right for me. I've played on and off for about eighteen years but am now back in the groove of things and full out into band mode.

I actually acquired this pedal for free (no joke). My buddy gave it to me along with another when I started playing again this last time, they were no longer of use to him.

What I love about this pedal is its clearly designed to fill your sound with just pure dirty distortion. Its disgustingly rich with gain and has just the right amount of EQ's to mess around with. I hear some players complain that its too cheap sounding, which may be the case for certain types of playing style, however if you've played as long as I have you know that one pedal is never gonna fulfill all of your playing needs unless you buy something like the Digitech RP1000 or something similar, I don't rely on one single pedal I like to collect a variety. If its a case of needing to be louder during solo's than I suggest placing a Crybaby Wah behind it in your effects loop.

There isn't much I dislike about this pedal unless as I said your looking for a louder, cleaner sound, than play around with others. But if you want a ridiculous amount of distortion than this is the one for you.

Its built to last, it gets kicked around so much around here if it were built cheap I would've noticed by now.

In closing, I'd have to say if your starting out and don't want to break the bank but need something to play metal riffs; you'd be wrong to not even at least try one of these out. I have plenty of other much more expensive gear to play around with but I always end up playing a few songs through the DOD Death Metal Pedal....why?....Cause its fun Dammit!

DOD is known for offering very cool effect pedals at very reasonable prices. I should I review a discontinued product though? Well, not only this is awesome distortion pedal but also, as chessy as this may sound, it made the musician I’m today. Back in Brazil, this was the pedal that made my high school band, the heaviest in town, and trust me when you hold such a title, not only you will get to hook up with a bunch of girls, but you gain the respect of anyone on your school.

My brother bought this pedal for our band in Brazil in 1996, in my country, if you want to buy any electronic equipment and pay half of the price you go to our neighbor Paraguay. That’s where he found the DOD Death Metal. I recently purchased one on ebay, I paid $35.

What I love the most about this pedal now, besides all the stories I can relate to it, it’s how thick and heavy I can get my guitar to sound. I currently leave the level knob (R.I.P) on 12 o’clock, the low knob (guts) on 3 o’clock, the mid knob (pain) and the high knob (scream) on 1 o’clock. But through experimentation I always find different settings that gives my guitar very interesting sounds.


The flaw here is from DOD for discontinue its production.

DOD pedal are really though, this death metal have been through rough times and still work perfectly. That’s how exactly a guitar pedal should be. You can power this pedal via 9 Volts batteries or through power cord. It comes with 4 interesting named knobs (R.I.P, Guts, Pain, Scream) that gives you control for respectively leve, low, mids and highs. A led light on right on center indicated when the pedal in on, or if you are running out of battery juice.

The heaviest guitar sound you can get by a small and inexpensive pedal. Look for it on Ebay now.

Like The Name Implies, Death Metal. The Pedal Itself, Is The Perfect Death Metal Stomp Box, Assumeing You Know How To EQ. You Can Get Anywhere From Extremely Scooped-Mids To Peircing Leads To Heavy Metal Overdrive Tones. The Range Of Tones Is Outstounding, Its Possible To Get Disturbed, Dimmu Borgir, Godsmack, Carcass, Pantera, And Opeth Tones From This Bitch. The Gain On It Is Fuckin "Whoa!". The Gain Is So High That The Best Application For Is Nothing Less Than Heavy Metal. Words Cannot Describe The Crazy Amount OfGain This Thing Has. The Battery Placement Is Great As Well, Right At The Top Of The Pedal. Very Easy To Get Too.

Like AllThings Man Made, This Thing Has Some Flaws. The Only Problem I Have With ThisPedal Is That The Placement Of The AdapterJack Is Set On The Side Kinda Awkwardly Under The Output. The Quailty And Construction Are Pretty Well Made, So Far In The 3 Years I've HadIt, its Survived Being Dropped On Concrete, Dropped out A Car Window, Run over With A Bike, Been Thrown Againt The Wall, And Beer Spilt On It. Dod Did A Damn Good Job Puttin This Bitch Together.

Overall, If you Like Gain By The Busloads, And Extreme Amounts Of Tone Shapeing, Then Definately Buy This Pedal, Plug In, Power Up And Play.

I purchased this Pedal a few weeks ago, needing some heavy distortion. I bought it from www.Music123.com who was having a sale on them. I paid $35.00 for the pedal. Which is great because normally it is about $80.00.

I love the distortion that this pedal punches out!!! It is so crunchy and heavy. I also like the look of the pedal. It is black with red splatters all over it to simulate blood. Also, for the Level it says R.I.P., Low it says GUTS, Mid it says PAIN, and High it says SCREAM.

The only thing I don't like about this pedal is that it is capable of blowing speakers really easily, which it says in the manual. If you turn the low and mid up and the high down, it can easily blow it.

The construction is awesome, it's got a solid metal contruction and the pedal works great. It never gets stuck or doesn't work.

If you need a heavy distortion that screams metal, you gotta buy this pedal.

I got the pedal of a friend for £30 because he already had a similar effect on his Zoom 606,its definatly worth the £30 and a lot more

I like the names under the knobs - rip, scream, guts and pain. the pedal has a really distorted and heavy sound which is perfect for playing anything that is heavier than Metallica

I dont like the red paint slatters that are supposed to look like blood, its pretty lame really, also i get annoyed when the battery is low and you cant footswitch it anymore

the pedal is really well made and solid being that it is Metal, none of that plastic rubbish that you see so much of today

I think that you should definatly buy this pedal if you are into heavy metalor anything heavyier, although its not really death metal like the name would suggest, i tried plying the berzerker and its not got a deep enough tone on it

I bought this pedal for 70 bucks off of e-bay. I was looking for a heavy distortion tone for rhythm and lead guitar.

There isn't much i like about this pedal.

Where do i begin. First off the distortion is awful,way to muddy. This pedal claims to emulate death metal bands such as carcass and napalm death , but this just isnt true.
The tone is also terrible for solos. It make way to much noise. It sounds very cheap. All 5 guys in the band got a laugh out of this pedal. If you go to musicians friend you can here this crap pedal there.


This pedal is made of metal so it is durable . I got rid of mine 3 hours after i bought it , so i can't really say.

This pedal is a waste of time. Do not buy this pedal. If you need a heavy tone , buy a boss mt-2 it . It's still the champ. My custom les paul sound bad through this unit enough said.

Like i said before im realy into death metal, and this pedal delivers it to you. the distortion is just aawwwww!!!! the price is also amzing . I'v used boss before and its a geat company but for the price of the dod death metal pedal its not far from being as good as boss.

it's a great pedal, but for something so good there is bound to be something bad. I'v noticed that it uses baterries up quit fast, and it sometimes want come on when u stomp it. but other than that its great

it looks o-k and its pretty solid . just take care of it and it should work o-k.

I bought this pedal for £50 and as i was looking for a heavy distortion pedal the fact it was called 'DEATH METAL' made me buy it.

I dont like much about this pedal, it looks cool thats about it. Oh and its quite cheap!!

I was expecting a heavy metal sound what i got was a weak cheap metal sound. This pedal is crap for palm muting and playing heavy chords/riffs. Originally i had the BOSS METAL ZONE PEDAL which has its limits but it is still alot better for playing metal than this. Im yet to find a decent heavy distortion pedal but the digitech metal master heavy metal pedal seems to have good reviews.

Its metal and feels solid enough, you wouldnt wanna drop it, but when you stamp on the pedal to go between clean and distortion it feels a bit weak and you have to be accurate when doing so, sometimes, it doesnt activate at all.

Overall this is a misleading pedal beacause of the name and i wouldnt recommend it for metal. Although its cheap dont buy it!!

Take all of your other lame distortion or overdrive pedals, put them together, add a one month supply of steroids and you have the Deathmetal pedal. This pedal kicks butt. Even for more mellow Judas Priest or Iron Maiden, it is a great choice. And that is where the pedal starts - it gets thicker and more nasty.

It is not in the shape of a coffin.

Sturdy enough to pop somebody in the head with and still keep playing.

If somebody were to take this pedal, I would hunt them down and beat them into submission. You have got to try it to believe it.

I got this thing off Musician's Friend for like 50 bucks, and it was worth every penny. I paid like 8 bucks on insurance, but I know I'm garunteed for 3 years.

I like everything about this pedal, the sound is just terrifying, the ear piercing highs on the e string, and the graoning low chords that could shake the ground. I really like the sound, because the only other distortion I had was the Danelectro Black Coffee, which was not givig me the sound I wanted. My amp also had no distortion, so I was screwed until I bought this little baby. I also like blood look on the pedal, along with the labels on the knobs.

The only thing I don't like is replacing battteries, that can be annoying.

It's made out of metal, not plastic, so it's obviousley well constructed. Everythiung is made out of plastic these days. I don't think it's going to break, I barely use my foot to turn it on and off, i usually use my hand, so I think it will last a long time.

If you like that sensitive crap rock, don't buy this pedal. If you like tear your guts out and serve them inside of an amp rock, this is the pedal for you. One more thing I don't think you should put the high Eq all the way up on this thing, it blows out amps easily.

im not sure where i got the pedal,some web site. i got it for $45. i wanted it for quite some time. i couldnt decide whether to get the digitech metal master or this one,until i read the reviews. apperently, the metal master is horrible, and dissapointing.so i got this one.You can listen to this pedal on musicians friend.

i love its booming bass and screaming highs.if you like alot of 'chunk' in your playing, this pedal is perfect for you.its great for playing metal and hardcore. power chords sound so good and harmonics sound nice. the booklet gives you some knob combinations that sound awesome.

nothing except the theme of it is kinda lame, the knobs are labeled RIP(level), guts(low EQ),pain(mid EQ), and scream(high EQ). i thought that was pretty dumb, but it does not affect the tone of this pedal one little bit.I highly recommend this pedal.

the pedal has stomp box construction, which is good if you have stomping problems, because it will hold up and not break. nothing bad has happend to this pedal while ive had it.

I bought this pedal new from Ebay for $45. It is listed as $85-90 in most places, and I was looking for an inexpensive way to get really heavy tonalities.

It is REALLY heavy. So far, it is the closest thing to perfect that I have played. It is eternally crunchy, and keeps good clarity even in low tunings (at one point, I was playing in GDG--4 steps lower than drop D).

It has broken twice. I am not a very aggressive player, and attribute the defects to poor construction. Also, the high EQ is a bit annoying. This isn't a great distortion for soloists. Finally, due to the extremity of its distortion, it doesn't work well in connection to effects processors.

Again, I thought that it could have been better. I took good care of the pedal, and paid to have it repaired the first time. DOD itself, however, is a good manufacturer, and I wouldn't condemn the entire company for this one pedal.

A good pedal for metal enthusiasts everywhere, from death to nu. JUST BE REALLY CAREFUL WITH IT!

Bought it from a local store for about Usd 70 ( i know it's a bit expensive compared to other stores)..Actually, i have a Boss MD-2 Mega Dist. and altough i'm quite happy with that, this distortion blew me away from the first time i had a chance to try it.Then i bought it immediately..

This unit has a distortion tone that no-other product have ever had.so powerful, so loud..perfect for metal and hard rock guitarists.with a little turning and twisting the tone knob you can get any sound from power metal to hard-rock..

at fist, i had a feeling that when playing lead guitar it was a kind of a little fuzzy.but soon i fixed that by making some adjustments of the knobs..so, no problem for now..you have to make your own settings..

even this " like a tank" term refers to "Boss" products which they really are, this unit is exactly like a tank..

i'm a pedal lover. i like trying different pedals to get a unique sound..but believe me this is the best heavy metal distortion i've ever had or tried..

if you need to buy only one pedal but can not decide..definetely this is the one..

I've been eye balling this pedal for sometime,next thing i know is christmas comes along and my girlfreind hands me a gift. fortunitly it was the fx86b,it has the very best distortion. she paid around 49.99 for it and the truth is that this pedal is priceless.

$35(what a waste) i was a newbie looking for a fun and cheap pedal but i got suckered into buying this crap, i went to guitar center and played on some strat(you know the story) power chords etc.. and i thought it sounded decent but i come to find it really isnt durable or good sounding, it sucks

i dont like much about it except the blood paint on the casing of it

its sounds like crap and everytime i turn it up on high it blows my amp out!

I got this pedal for $15 from a guy who said he didn't need it any more because he had a multi effects processer.I played it and thought it was sweet

It is a great pedal for punk,rock,hardcore type stuff. My amp's distortion comes no where close to this thing.

Not much that I don't like, besides the gorey names for the knob controls such as guts, pain ,scream, R.I.P.

Great quality. Small potable,durable.

It is a great pedal,would reccomend it to any guitarist who wants a heavy distortion sound.

Excellent, you can produce many different tones from this pedal. I've gotten Metallica, Pantera, Rage, Offspring, etc. sounds out of this thing. Nice harmonics, thick, punchy bass, and good highs, too. The EQ knobs are way more useful than a drive knob. A distortion knob would be nice though... But who cares. This thing is built to rock!

I definitely got my money's worth. Better value for the money than the Metal Zone, but that's just my opinion. If it were stolen, I'd beat the crap out of whoever took it and go buy another one.

I love this pedal. You just have to mess with the EQ to get the tone you want. One tip: Just set the level a tad louder than your amp. And just remember, this is only my opinion, you should always try lots of different pedals on many DIFFERENT SETTINGS before choosing.

UTILIZATION

It is really simple, of course read the manual knob on 4 parks the two effects for each, as explained in the manual that is simple if you understand English.

I immediately took the hand without reading the manual at home and in the store, however, actually now since I read the manual but equalization is really the same as before

the names of the four knob are very clear and respected in the spirit of death metal:
Volume = (RIP Beware the volume control feedback you can quickly see that the gain is always a background on DOD)
Low = Guts [guts] (If you increase the bass shakes the speaker which gives effect in the guttural sound)
Mid = Pain [pain] (by increasing mid you play on are in the presence of dod)
High = Scream [cree] (by increasing the treble is on the clock frequency of attack that reduces your game)

SOUND QUALITY

A unique sound quality is very much in its influence and our arsenal and a great character, big problem and are therefore breath noise gate with it.

However it is really made for the death metal [but all styles and some Death Metal and Grindcore as Thrash]

It may well be varied on the color band sound.
There are example of his given in the reference manual is a little from my point of depart in my control to me.
Can have being quite disgusting and runny or sound very clean and really this all depends on how the Mid set, of course did not abuse the treble in your setting will make it sound too synthetic medium and also give her the feel your amp sound out of old radio XD.
So for the treble between 11am to 1am, the medium between 11 am to 2 and from 11 am to 2 severe, depending on the style of death metal that I play.
And of course I set Consiel of saving the volume knob between 7am and 8am to 60% used more than a 100 watt amp.

often plays a Charvel with a SD Ch4 SH4 [soon TB6] and a Jackson Soloist XL with a 81/SA/SA kits EMG [EMG's are so cold with the distortion of the DOD distortion hight gain banditti 112] a banditti 112 is nice.
That pedal is more comfortable on a tube amp as a transistor and especially not played with a modeling amp the sound is even worse they can imagine.
and level of advice I minium baffle 1X12 "and if you have room in your home a 4X12" It makes great

OVERALL OPINION

I use this pedal for 3 years, I had bought a center effect in Pigalle
I look at the time as a novice in the past to a bright and large distortion in time I had a Peavey Vypyr 15 watt and I wanted a digitech death metal.

The seller advised me a metal box, metal core but I was not his for this pedal he fumbled in his stock to see if he remained in one, back with a nine DOD fx86b never used and was surprised at the 'I have even asked him, I spanked a test of a valve king and a ibanez on Di Marzio (I too have wanted to dive gear except ibanez XD) I loved it and bought it.

I do it again without hesitation that choice in my essential arsenal as a big fan of death metal
With my experience I learned that carcass, suffocation and yet another group had used in their arsenal in their beginning.
I've used other pedals like the Metal Zone, Metalcore, ultrametal it does not make the point against the dod [love is testing a digitech Metalmaster, Hardwire TL2] and it is really great pedal with a tube amp

UTILIZATION

This. Pedal. Is. Awful.

If you're in a noise noise noise band, just trying to out-noise everyone else on the show's bill, this is the pedal for you. Otherwise, this is horrendous. This pedal sounds like someone put a microphone in a blender and turned it on "frappe". It is so noisy! It is easy to use - unplug it, and put it in a closet. That is how I like to "use" it - not plugged in to anything that makes music - because it sounds horrendous. The plastic switch is another awful anti-bonus that fully contributes to the amount of suck this pedal has to offer.

SOUND QUALITY

This, again, is the worst-sounding pedal of all time. If you have an enemy in a band, you could give this to them and tell them it's the best pedal ever, and see if they use it. If so, they'll lose all their fans, because I don't know how anyone could stand to be in the same room as the DOD Death Metal pedal's terrible crap tone. It doesn't even have a gain control! What self respecting distortion box has no way to control the amount of level?!? The labeling on the controls would be funny if the pedal didn't suck so much. The controls should be labeled "Crap", "Suck", "Terrible", and "Godawful Snake Hiss".

OVERALL OPINION

Do not buy this unless you are a masochist. This pedal is good for a paperweight, as a secret stash box, or as a throwable weapon (not that I endorse that kind of behavior). It is not suitable for use as a musical device. It is possibly the worst product that anyone has ever made. Ever. If someone asked me to buy this from them for 5 dollars, I still wouldn't. I wish all versions of this pedal would simultaneously spontaneously combust, and that the memory of this horrid stompbox was cleansed from the minds of all unfortunate witnesses to its supreme terribleness. I hate this stompbox.

Of extreme distortion pedals. Importantly, there is no SETTING THE Drive on the pedals. The Drive is always donf!

UTILIZATION

Easy to use. A knob for working mdiums, which is crucial for Metal pedals.

SOUND QUALITY

Good sound, good seed ... Drive always fawn background because of all must have been spitting style ...
We need a yes spit ... but even when, for use live or high volume, this can be teachers (risk of feedback iControl).

The rglage of mdiums is effective, but the memory for a Metal Zone possde SETTING THE mdium even more effective because paramtrique (you can select the range frequency drives m dium quel'on will increase or decrease).

OVERALL OPINION

I did not buy the pedals, but that boss a few times in a mag. guitar, I could well take my time to test a stockade of pedals!
If that is 100% dedicates Death. Versatility 0.
It's a good distortion, but I think even to that of Death, Power Metal, Trash mre ta ... The Metal Zone is better because you can better shape your sound thanks to mdiums parameter.
In addition if necessary, you can also lower your Drive to avoid the Feedback control.

... Finally, the ultimate weapon in distortion is not the pedals, the Distortion channel for an amp of good quality (not forcment lamps for extreme metal for that matter). .. but if you want a pedals is that you must have an amp a little cheap I guess!

Ben c dla mega distortion pedals in, drive still has merits, the knob disappeared! It is a robust pedal ... 3-band EQ for the medium-board thank you! Gnralement is what he really miss a pedal of this type ...
C'estune pedal you buy if you want a big distortion, if we want to do in the shade it will be difficult without other pedals, I have the last round, but the former is worse!

UTILIZATION

Well we can not say that it is complicated to use! ds that the industry is on and ready to tattered ... The medium is mega practical to have a little more presence, it crucially lacks the other! is one of the reasons why I chose it also ...

SOUND QUALITY

A good deal of gain, a 3-band EQ, I love the sound it out, I use to play the forcment not death, the EQ can make it happen in other styles (grunge rock or other, but that was well dla extreme distortion for the style anyway ...)
A priori it is not versatile at all, but I use it with a pedal can (LF7 Ibanez but all the settings to neutral) to lower the level of, and it gets super nice overdrive, j ' I have not had pleindre!
I think if you want a good distortion pedal with a lot of gain is the one that must be taken, the DOD pedals are with the characters, the boss did it not to my taste, c Eastern Standard is a great value, but it's not like we had an original pedal ...
I would not put a 10 because of the noise loud enough that it comes out, but surprisingly!!

OVERALL OPINION

I have since August 2004 for $ 50, it was a great investment, less than a boss, more characters, gain a background and a great surprise when we lower the output level of the scratch to have overdrive, the essential medium, a solid pedal, the background noise is true, but I would do the same choices as I can not afford to pay me a head lamp!

Bin wholesale cest are 4 inches complicate control (level, low, mid, high) (or if you prefer: rip - guts - pain - scream)
