sir,

i am very confuse about work of amplifier and recevier...actually i have sound systen of panasonic ..but i am not satisfation of there sound so now. i am decided to added with recevier. or amplifier .for DOLBY SURROUNDED SOUND...can i do that?????

Well a receiver has a radio in it.

If you already have a tuner you won't need it. You should be able to replace your old amplifier with a new surround one. But if everything is built-in with your old setup ie. a boombox or shelf system you will need to add components to replace them.

If you are going from stereo to surround you will also need more speakers.

A good stereo or surround system "can" be used as a monitor for your home studio, but you would be better off with pro gear. Going back to the stereo and/or surround to see how your mix translates.
