Not too bad for the price

    Vox AC15VRPublished on 06/01/11 at 14:26
This is basically the bottom dwelling Vox Ac15. This thing is called the Valve reactor technology which mean you supposedly get the same tone with less tubes and less weight. So it is basically a hybrid amp with solid state or digital and tubes as well. I cut through all the bull crap...this sounds like a cheaper Vox practice amp in the size of a regular Ac15. Nothing has changed in size but the amps sounds similar to the $100-300 Vox amp modelers or practice amps.

    SOUNDS

They have this new modern nu metal tone in here that sounds nothing like a Vox. If you are looking into getting a Vox Ac15 because your favorite player uses one, this is not what they are playing. If you are a Brian May fan or an Edge fan they would never play this amp. I suggest you save a bit more cash and get a used real Ac30.

The tone of this amp still sounds like a cheap solid state amp that has no character or feel in the tone. There is no warmth or smooth tube tone to this amp. Even though it has a preamp tube in the power section this thing doesn't even remotely sound like an AC15.

    OVERALL OPINION

This is a big pass for me. The amp sounds sterile and thin much like a solid state amp should sound like...garbage! Don't waste you money on this amp.

At new these amps come in at around $380, which is about $300 over priced. You are paying for an extra speaker and a logo that looks like a Vox Ac15. This is not an AC15 by any means.

(This content has been automatically translated from French)
I tried it in a store some time ago, and I do not remember it all. For detailed information, see the website of vox or test appeared on Audiofanzine.

I guess it is very classic. The power output (but does it really make sense to talk about that?) Is 15 watts, as the name of the amp indicates. I tried to medium volume (acceptable day by neighbors, too strong for an aside), and I had to be 40% of the volume.

I do not think you can easily get clear sound in a group play, because it does not ring loud enough, but it is too powerful to have the volume distortion stylish apartment.

    UTILIZATION

I do not think we need a manual. Everything is quite simple, as usual on the Vox amps.

Readily obtained a sound that closely matches the ugly one seeks. RAS to use. I put 7 because there is nothing special about this amp.

    SOUNDS

The amp is oriented blues-rock is my style of music, but he did not yet convinced. I tried to jazz (I tried semi-hollow guitars), and I have not managed to get her sweet but not bland. Thus not jazz. For hard rock, it could do, but for metal, one can dream. To make a reggae skank, it would perhaps.

By clean, we get a sound is bland, or hard and cold. You do not feel at all the supposed heat lamp.

In overdrive, this is not even worth talking about. It is the zero saturation tube I have ever heard. It's not ugly, but nothing in the pants.
My favorite sound: with the master up and down the gain, we have a very transparent amp, which is good for making scales and exercises.

    OVERALL OPINION

I have not been kind to the vox ac15vr, but we must understand me. In general, I have a good feeling with the vox, but it disappointed me very unpleasantly. Nasal and without character, I certainly would not recommend it.

It's not a bad amp for the same, but the value is not good and is 300 €, we can do much better, even from the same manufacturer.

A test was issued to AF, but I allow myself to doubt the objectivity of the author, which also clearly lack of enthusiasm in his article.
