Best value: Excellent
- This is a hybrid amp head, Marshall Valvestate Series 2 (reissue series Valvestate) from the late 90's, consisting of a pre-amplification section equipped with a lamp (ECC83) and a power amplifier transistor ...

- 100W @ 8 Ohms stereo. What fart ears of anyone. I never exceed half the volume knob to repeat '.

- 4 channels with an EQ for clean & crunch and the other for 2-channel saturated. In short, two real channels.

- Effects loop & HP emulation output, reverb, headphone jack;)
On my amp, the knob in the effects loop is mounted upside down but somehow it is not used much, because the mix is not very effective ...
In short it is not the top of the technology, but Honorable especially for the price. There's everything you need anything!

UTILIZATION

There's no easier in fact. You can play with a basic configuration, just plug in his guitar and turn the knobs (not to mention the volume ...) and there's the sound that comes out, it's magic!

No seriously, the use is not so simple if we are to mount a further configuration, style, effects loop with multi-effects in the loop. But not rocket science. Anyway, Marshall amps are known for their appearance "Plug'n'Play", which made them successful. There may be circumstances to make complex settings if you want, although the EQ is not super accurate. That's enough for some styles and not others ...

SOUNDS

Moi ca me. But that is where it usually thickens because it seems that here the sound Marshall is "either you love or hate it." For my part I love!

I'm using a Charvel 1991, 475 Deluxe model I think (well it's such a mess at Charvel I did not know ...), rise in active pickups and granted Drop A # (Bb) to death metal. In short you will understand, I do not lace. But contrary to what many here think, Marshall for the big death metal and in particular is excellent! There's one particular grain and its super compact ideal for rhythmic death. Indeed, one wonders why all the major groups of death metal US (Obituary, Suffocation, Nile, Deeds of Flesh, etc. etc.) play or have played on Marshall amps. Is not it? Just because it's tough, there are parts around the world (in practice rounds) and it sounds more the fire of God!

Of course, they are for these groups of JCM, the big brother of all Marshall. But even with this "small" Valvestate VS100RH we obtain the same grain so special and a very thick, which sends its grave. The amp supports super well all types of low tunings (I have friends who play on AVT150H Drop ...) and little we know a little noise criteria necessary for this style, you can have ZE SON! There's enough gain to play any style of metal (I'm in 3 quarts, and again ...), not need the Power Dimension, which makes it useless. An equalizer with little bass, and a lot of media (and not V, because A # is the porridge when playing in groups), this is a sound US déchire.Bien, but a little old-schoool . It's a little too thick in some déplara sometimes imprecise but it has its charm ... It's not a JCM 2000 either ...

Well, OK! To me that fits me, but I am a metal. Apart from the death metal that is what happens? Well for other types of metal, such as neo, or heavy, the sound is airy enough to get good sound with OD2, so for this style is best to look elsewhere ... With the OD1, we can get good rock sounds, similar to a JCM900 and less well. By pushing it makes the hard, punk or old thrash but nothing too fascinating. OK at best.

The crunch, I use it ever ... I do not like.

The clean is not bad, nice if we add a little reverb or chorus on top. With the button ToneShift, we get a small range of different sounds. But it snaps quickly, and as all Marshall (even with tube amps), the crystal clear sound fades quickly with the volume. The fans are all clean sounds Fender guys ...

I use a BOSS GT6 as multi-effects only, and it sounds pretty, but it could sound better. The effects loop of my amp is pretty shitty (I do not know why) and I get a sufficient result by connecting between the guitar and amp. It takes away opportunities, but when we play the tape it will be brutal!

This gives specific advice on the sound. On the one hand, the extreme metallers will be delighted by this amp, which is the best quality / price ratio for death metal or whatnot. On the other hand, others who are disappointed zikos. But make no mistake, this amp is ideal for extreme metal. Since I am objective, I put 9 / 10 for extreme styles and 6 / 10 for others.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for a long time, a few years. I am eyeing the Mesa / Boogie, Engl, or on the JCM2000, but eventually I took this head because I really needed to have sound without ruin me. And that's really the strength of the head. Readily available between € 300 and € 350 for OCCAZ 'can have big sound for cheap ...

What I like is that for a small fee, you can get the sound that made its credentials in the early 90's in the major groups of death metal 'Rican and even tickle the more modern sounds that are JCM2000 territory. For this style, there's no denying it, it's all good. This lack of versatility, but after all? When you have found the style of music we like, and its ideal to play this style. Why go further? If I had to make another choice, it would certainly be a JCM2000 ...
