In fact, I use only DAW mode via Mackie control method for Ableton Live:

track selection,
mute, solo these tracks
play / stop / loop / record

AC works by pages 8 tracks with feedback LEDs to activate or not the parameter in question, nice.

The rest is lousy because it is not programmable via the utility not terrible, so I am using not Effector mode (via MIDI Control Change 2 pads, one pushing up the value of a parameter assigned, the other by lowering the value = 2 controls column pads 24 assignable controls so that the changed value is displayed, rather original way by the backlight pads. Ultimately, it is less a potentiometer / encoder thus completely useless.

Drummer mode is not terrible either, ca sends Note On a priori intended to trigger sounds / samples genre but MPC pads are small and hard, so it's boring, so it's blah. I do not use it.

DJ mode, which I use occasionally to trigger clips in Ableton, wander through the columns and trigger scenes using the dial is nice but limited to 16 or 17 rows of clips / scenes so for this function, a better launchpad I think.

Ultimately reduced to a basic sequencer controller, it makes the priest a little expensive but it is portable and very strong (hard plastic, quite heavy)

I do not know if I remake this choice but I must say that even down to the use of only one quarter of its functions, I use it routinely for this function just: play / pause / loop / rec + selection 8 tracks by 8, mute, solo.

I use it for almost a year, I have not tried other models before.

Goodies:
robust: as explained mawou if a tractor rolls over, always try to connect after, it can work
launchpad at half price: dj mode is not bad at all. Remember to configure the beast midi in AND out, and you get a visual feedback of the clips in Ableton live reading (at least). For triggering clips live is quite frankly, with still some caveats: only two colors, red for the clips read and blue .... Everything else. 3 colors for me is a minimum, or at least when there are no clips in the box, no colors! But hey it's still good
functions performed: the drummer functions, effector and daw are not feasible. Drummer: given the sensitivity of the pads, as do rhythms mouse ..... Effector: I do not know how you control with, especially if it is to achieve automation, but good luck. But parcontre reflecting a little, There are way to recycle the unusable function, including volume control effects returns (as I have read)

Retraining in question could have been more relevant if the "imap" MIDI editing software offered more opportunities because ultimately, only assignments drummer mode can be adjusted .... Damage

I often say that snapped her in a control surface that is a shame. Better worth to buy good hardware with our modest savings. But in fact, the purpose of a control surface is to allow comfort while working. So good .... Left to be comfortable as being completely or not at all!
