- How long have you use it?
I use it since September 2005 (United States brought in because at the time unavailable in France)
- What is so special that you like most and least?
the 01 is a real machine to patch, super convenient for recording. It is for the more ... Least, is the environment mLAN. It would be nice if you have several mLAN devices, but it's not my case, and the AC will not be in the near future.
- Have you tried many other models before buying it?
Well, no, I could direct me to a card adat rebalanced to my motu, but it would have unnecessarily complicated the matter.
- How would you rate the quality / price?

Yes, even if it is better to demmerder alone, not rely on yamaha to explain the operation. It was an album with cubase sx + 01V96 + my16mlan, some tracks were even recorded with the preamp 01. No crippling bug ... The modular system is a more serious!
-1 Point for MIDI (noon a single mLAN, if you want to keep it, the studio manager to switch to USB), otherwise it is well thought out. A non-mLAN ASIO driver, it would be nice too, to avoid the light of mLAN to boot even if the 01 is not present ...
Oh, and a multimedia driver! how I do it myself, to watch a DVD via my 01

To use the Windows 7 mLan:
-Go to Device Manager,
-Choose the bus controller IEEE 1394
-Update the driver by installing "pilot inherited" (legacy English)
The latest version of mLan install nickel, and your mLAN device will work again!

With the new driver (1.62) is much simpler: the new version removes any old file mLan who was present on the computer before installing.
Currently, I use my laptop (Athlon 64 3000 + 1GB RAM) and Sonar 4 for recording concerts of my group in 16 simultaneous tracks 48/24 on a USB2 external HDD: this is nickel, I could record for days without any problems!

Installation is tricky: if you missed the first time, it is impossible to reinstall applications mLAN. Same if you have an older installation.
The only solution I found after much research: uninstall all previous versions with the small program "Windows Install Cleanup" available here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/fr .
In this utility, select the top of the list [1.5.4] or [1.0.1] or anything like that. Yamaha did not give a specific name to uninstall the data, otherwise the serial number.
Then reinstall the latest version of mLAN Tools.

When it works, it gauze.
On my PC P4P800 3.00 GHz + 1 GB RAM, Sonar 4 => 16 + 16 out in simultaneous easily stall.
On my laptop of equivalent power, but the hard drive is slower => 12 + 12 out in simultaneous, do not push it .

I will return in some time when oiled.

I use it every day for 4 ans.J 'assays have a lot of digital audio interfaces, but it was the best for my gear and its use.
The most awesome thing is the ability to network with all kinds of stuff compatible mLan ensemlble and adapt to create its own network.
The negative point is the abandonment of mLan by Yamaha the benefit system "firewire peer too peer (1 + 1 computer peripheral).
The quality / price is not bad especially during (rather rare now).
If you need to Win7 OS, go your way, otherwise do not hesitate.
But attention to the installation and especially the compatibility with the chipset running the firewire port on your computer (available on the global site of Yamaha) ...
