    Fender Cyber Twin

I mostly play bluegrass and country, but actually grew up on hair metal and just love cranking up the distortion and tearing it up once in a while.

I paid about $500 for this unit used from some guy I found on Dallas Craigslist. The amp had to do all kinds of things, provide every tone I needed for all the different types of music I like to play.

Love the presets, the option to configure tones, the motorized knobs, the power, the sound quality, and the built in tuner. I like the look too. It's sort of classic and modern all at the same time.

Wasn't cheap. Nothing worth anything is though, so I'm not complaining. I heard some folks have problems with some of the electronics, but that was …

Fender quality, fender tone. First rate.

Overall, I'm very pleased. Not sure if I overpaid, but I really wanted this amp and it was only about 5 years old I believe. Still, it sounds great, is in great shape and I'm enjoying the hell out of it.

When I listened to samples of Cyber-Twin at the Fender web site, they sounded very good. It has many different Fender amps sound.

BTW, the accessories of the 3 amps were also missing. Why do they sell defective amps? These amps should be re-called, fixed, and sold as refurbished!

Cyber-Twin looks durable and nice looking but the quality is very poor.

Cyber-Twin is not cheap. I know Fender has other models like Cyber-Deluxe and Cyber-Champ. I heard there are problems with them too. I will not buy any of these amps. Meantime, I will continue to use my Fender Deluxe 90 DSP (6 months) and my Vox AD60VTX (1 month). I bought them brand new and I have not encountered any issues with my two amps so far. Only time can tell and I will let you know.

I PURCHED THIS AMP FROM MUSIC CORNER SALISBURY AFTER TRADING A FENDER TWIN AMP THE CHANGEOVER PRICE WAS $900. I DECIDED TO BUY THE C.T. AFTER BORROWING IT FROM THE STORE FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS. IT WAS AMAZING!

THE AMP IS EXACTLY AS FENDER DESCRIBE IT, A ZILLION DIFFERENT AMPS IN ONE. IT SOUNDS GREAT, IS USER FREINDLY, AND LINKED UP TO MY BEHRINGER MIDI CONTROLLER MAKES CARTING GEAR AND SETTING UP SIMPLE. I LOVE THE VALVE PREAMPS FOR THE BLUESY TONES AND THE SOLID STATE PREAMPS FOR THE METAL AND COUNTRY. THE AMP IS NOT DIGITAL. THE EFFECTS ARE DIGITAL (AND SUPER) AND SO IS THE WAY THE AMP CONFIGERES ITSELF. THE WAH SOUNDS ARE FABULOUS.

ONLY ONE THING IRRITATES ME SLIGHTLY! WHEN USING A CONTINUOUS CONTROLER PEDAL AS A VOLUME PEDAL ON THE SELECTED OVERDRIVE PREAMP, IT STEPS WHEN RAISING OR LOWERING THE VOLUME RATHER THAN GLIDES. I USE A VOLUME PEDAL ON THE WAY TO THE AMP OR USE THE CONTROLER ON THE AMPS VOLUME PREAMP TO OVERCOME THIS.

THE CONSTUCTION IS AS YOU WOULD EXPECT FROM AN EXPENSIVE AMP, BULLETPROOF. THE AMP IS LIGHTWEIGHT COMPARED TO MY ALL VALVE RIGS. IT FELL OF THE TOP OF A PLATFORM AND LANDED ON A DRUM KIT (I HAVE SINCE CHANGED TO CORDLESS TRANSMITTER )I ONLY SCRATCHED THE TOLEX. (DRUMMER WAS NOT HAPPY, RIPPED FLOOR TOM HEAD)

THE CYBER TWIN HAS MADE MY LIFE AS A PERFORMER/TEACHER SO MUCH EASIER. THEY ARE STEREO 130 WATTS RMS AND LOUD. I WISH I COULD HAVE HAD ONE IN THE EARLY EIGHTIES, THEN MY BACK WOULDN'T BE SO BAD!! THE CYBER TWIN IS A LEGEND IN MY MIND. THEIR PRICE HAS DROPPED RECENTLY AND I THINK YOU CAN GET THEM FOR JUST UNDER 3 GRAND WITH A BIT OF HAGGLING. THANKS FENDER.

I bought this amp at Guitar Center in Westminster, Co. in March for around $1200.

Sounded great, tons of tones and effects. The idea of an amp [morphing] its internal circuitry to "become" other amps was intruiging to say the least.

But, problems became evident as one afternoon I sat down, and noticed that the noise gate was doing the opposite of it was supposed to do. Instead of turning the noise down after you stop playing, you could hear the noise actually swelling up in volume. This didn't change regardless of settings or cable/guitar changes.
I thought to myself, lets give it a few more days, cause I really love what this amp does.

I thought to myself, lets give it a few more days, cause I really love what this amp does.
The next couple of weeks found me marveling in the tonal versatility of this amp, until one evening I turned on the amps power switch and nothing happened!!
The first thing I thought was it must of somehow come unplugged from my Furman power conditioner. Well' it hadn't, so I turned the switch off, then turned it back on again and it powered up. (Now I'm having serious doubts) After that, it was all down hill. The tone mojo leapt outta' that amp cause' every amp model sounded generic and un-inspiring. To top it off, the display was just a buncha un-intelligble crap. It was time to call Guitar Center.
The salesmen were very gracious and said bring it back and we'll swap it out. That was pretty cool of them, even though it was well past thirty days. So I did some research and found out some of these amps have defective chips. So rather chancing another bad amp, I spent the extra dough and picked up a JCM 2000 TSL 100 half stack and I've gotta say... this amp rules! Tone...tone...tone!!

Don't buy the Fender Cyber-Twin. These probs always seem to happen when you try to cram this much into something. Stick to the basics, find a good clean, crunch, and lead tone and go from there. Happy tone hunting!

Bought at Guitar Center for $1189 sometime July 2001.

Sounded great for a while. Real nice clean sounds, (Fender amp presets good) especially with a Strat. Effects good, easy to use (could do with a few more knobs rather than buttons). Bought it to record using a hard disk computer system, so the midi capability and the S/PDIF out were necessary. I also liked the idea of being able to mic it up and blend the two sounds. Things were goin' great until...

it crapped out..turned it on one day and it sounded like s***. Spent two weeks in an authorized repair shop, they were clueless, wasted my time. Guitar Center kindly gave me a new one. The new one, right out of the box, was also s***. Fough…

Build quality is not good in my opinion.
Already knew about valve rattle problems etc., since found out a lot were shipped with faulty chips. By the way, the tubes are NOT considered user replaceable by Fender....gotta take it to a shop and pay big bucks to replace them if you want to keep the warranty up.

I got a Digitech 2120 to replace it and the D/tech blows it away as far as rock with h/buckers. I'm glad it's gone. Won't buy Fender electronics again.

Purchased from Musician's Friend for $1200. I was looking for a versatile modeling type amp that didn't sound cheesy and had a lot of good vintage tones to it.

What do I like? Everything. The amp rocks - period. First off, it's got just about every Fender amp built in that you could imagine. I guess the unit actually changes it's configuration internally to emulate the amp setting you've selected. Rather than trying to do everything on a computer chip. Secondly, it's got balls. 130W running through 2 Celestions. Incredible.

There's nothing I really have found to be less than excellent.

This is a typical Fender product. Built very well and of high quality. The structure of the amp is very solid and the knobs and controls don't feel cheap like on some other amps. This is a keeper.

I really like the fact that Fender took a little different route with their version of "modeling". Their quote is "Innovate, don't emulate" and I really think they hit the mark. The Cyber Twin is not a completely digital based system like some of the competition. It actually modifies it's internal circuitry to give you the tone you need based on the amp model you've chosen. I think that's really cool.

Demo Model at Long & McQuade, Vancouver 1695CAD

multi amp models, effects. I love the Fender amp simulations, versatility of the unit. It sounds great at low volume, and does not get harsh when turned up. Plenty of power for small room clubs, great for recording.

I had been waiting for about a year to try this out. I wanted to hear the amp with my Tom Anderson Classic Strat, and also to compare it to the Fender Strats. I was getting fed up with the somewhat sterile, non-spongy sound of the Anderson plugged into my Roland Jazz Chorus 120, so I lugged my guitar over my shoulder in my gig bag and took the 1.5 hour walk to the music store. (3 month bus strike here in Paradise City ha ha). Now let's get this straight. I am not a diehard Fender fan, in that I find myself constantly criticizing the tone of the strats, and the somewhat metallic sound of the amps (as compared to pre CBS models). I have owned the 4x10 hod rod deville, but I had dumped it finally after getting fed up with the mid-range harsh honkiness, and I was leaning towards purchasing the Deluxe - the 1x12 60 watt version, which was my 'planned purchase'. I was prepared to quickly dismiss the CT, as some kind of glorified toy, especially as I had already heard the CT's sound samples at Fender's web site, and that led me to believe that the tone was lacking warmth, was in fact shrill, harsh. Well forget that! In spite of all the negative reviews I had read about the CT's tone, I could not believe my ears. The Fender amp simulations with the Anderson are a fantastic combination. With mild tweaking of the presets I quickly found myself in guitar heaven, and did not want to leave!. Smooth, rich, spongy, airy. Yes airy! I can't believe I am saying this. I tried the Anderson with a deluxe, and a 2x12 hot rod deville, and I much preferred the CT's sound. I didn't have to put up with the nasty mid-range honk, the overall harshness, and the noise. I find the distortion channel on the deluxe and deville models pretty well disgusting. Oink oink! I left the sound room in a daze, told one of the salesman 'Let me try it with a strat please'. I tried a rosewood noiseless pickup strat (deluxe) and a maple new American Strat - both feel great in my left hand, but the CT's flaws got exaggerated with these guitars - no magic, drat! There seemed to be empty spots where the algorithms were missing sound frequencies, and the richness disappeared. Plugging the Anderson back in I began dialing up the different Fender amp simulations. I loved them all! I couldn't care less about the british amp models, but they are fun too!. The effects are somewhat dorky as compared to professional effect units, but I like the reverbs, and the delays, chorus, flanges are definitely workable. The fun factor rating is off the board. Yum yum! It is amazing the natural fit of the Anderson's chameleon pickups with the Fender CT. It is like a sweet spot in a tennis racket, or a well-used oiled baseball glove that fits snugly around the baseball, or for those of you a bit shy of the beam, it is like a horny 6 month experienced teenage twat gripping your member. Oh joy! I spent a moment considering the fiscal responsibilities in buying this amp, but just for a moment. For all of a sudden I heard the ghost of Jimi Hendrix speaking loudly in my ear "BUY AMP!", at the same time squeezing my throat with an invisible hand. I couldn't move, couldn't breathe. 'BUY AMP' BUY AMP'. So I threw myself out of the sound room, dazed, trying to collect my senses. "All right, I'll take it." "How will you pay for it, sir?" "Who cares", I replied, "I'll pawn my mother if I have to." Of course, what you can get for an 80 year old woman who is somewhat senile and has to go to the bathroom alot is indeed suspect. Ha ha! I felt like I was walking on air on the way back home, glowing like I had just had an hour of glorious sex. The guitar felt weightless. Something strange going on here. I have a 4-6 month wait until the CT arrives at the music store. At such time I must come up with the downpayment, and issue some Jimi Hendrix Ghostly Installment Plan cheques..

somewhat gorky effects, somewhat harsh in the british amp simulations

Construction and quality: dunno, cause haven't owned long enough - the unit is back-ordered - I have to wait 4-6 weeks.

If I didn't own the Anderson, I would not go so overboard in my ravings. But the CT has cleared up my musical decisions. I ought to get paid by both companies to advertise the qualities of each product, they make such great music together..
