What type of amplification (lamp, transistor ,...)? Preamp hybrid analog + digital modeling, analog power amplifier transistors. What is the power delivered? Really big 30 watts. I compared with my former Laney Chrome-O-Zone 30-watt lamps, punch level is very comparable. What connection? Is very limited on this version 30watts: guitar input, headphone jack, MP3 input, making Controller Sanpera. What are the settings, effects? ... Large, complex, many 'suits.
UTILIZATION
The setup is simple? Is a modeling amp with effects, if you think it is managed as a single channel base is missed. The Vypyr particular issue is still ergonomics. Lots of pots, often with a double function, push-push in every direction and memory you want, here. Simple is definitely not the right adjective for this amp. This is one of the reason that prompted the importer and Patrick Rondat (endorsement by the mark he seems) has to upload a video explaining the functions of Vypyr. The manual is clear and sufficient? ... It is on CD-Rom, I have not had time to go. Do you get easily a good sound? Whosoever shall say no is a liar! This is where this amp is particularly stunning. YES, excellent sound, as it is broadcast by a good 12 ", which is a rare combo of 30watts.
SOUNDS
Will it fit your style of music? Yes. it's very good stuff, malleable, rather versatile, friendly guitars that branch there. What kind of sound you get and with what settings ("crystalline", "fat ",....)? All, without exception. With a huge crunch in quality and large distos. With what (s) guitar (s) / low (s) or effect (s) do you play? A Start, Fernandes LE2 Custom with EMG (89/SA/SA) and a sort of Telecaster with humbuckers very thick. The only effect that I add (upload) is a Boss PW-10, a sick wah. Cool sounds. What are the sounds you prefer, you hate? I appreciate the cleans a little hot, greasy crunch and big big way leads Marshall + TS9 or emulation of the 5150 mark. What I like least? Actually no: all are usable, though some are more bland it all go better with psychedelic effects.
OVERALL OPINION
For how long have you been using it? Few weeks. It is a gift given to me by two friends made a little dingoes (the animal is still not free) and I thank every time I turn the Vypyr. Did you try many other models before acquire? Tons (with tube amps that weigh a dead donkey, a tonne is soon here). I was particularly a fan of Line6 Flextone III (I had two versions), so an early advocate of modeling. The Vypyr puts his meal, despite a fairly average look who posed as a cousin of the Spiders. Big mistake, the Spider is far from equaling the Vypyr. What thing do you like most/least about it? The sound effects very worthwhile: love. The lack of effect loop: almost unforgivable, even if the Vypyr almost everything you need. The Sanpera is interesting, but for now I'm just one of Vypyr. May be a purchase for the months to come? What is your opinion about the value for the price? Although I have been offered (again thank you guys) I think for the price displayed is truly beyond all hope. Knowing what you know now, would you make the same choice? ... YES!
Update March 12, 2010:
The Vypyr 30 is a combo that does not lack quality. I maintain my position on the record really serious amps emulated. Failing to be considered "pro", the Vypyr is characterized by a high-end sound. The sound "raw" amp is quite good, gaining depth and rendered with a touch of delay and a touch of reverb (what is done on a more regular amp).
Hi-Gain sounds are bluffing, credible, dense. Everything depends on the guitar that you plug above it is understood, but overall saturations are free. They range from creamy and velvety smooth the edge. As such, if you find that your sound is bad with this amp I urge you to change your guitar (or at least microphones).
The clean sounds are equally valid, but the overall time is right, a bit stiff, a little dry. Sounds typed "Fender" are indeed clear, but lack a bit of roundness. My view is to be taken lightly because the record clear sound is still very good and the flat I now add that is really a somewhat shameful to find fault ...
A few words about the effects, again without using the Sanpera (definitely a bit pricey and sadly necessary): modulations are good simulations of overdrive and boost are seen (take a simulation of Marshall Plexi, add the simulation of TubeScreamer and it's all good), the rest is more complicated to use and actually somewhat anecdotal.
Clearly good for rendering amps modeled, the Vypyr is a little behind on the quality of the proposed effects (although annoying to use without the pedal Sanpera). I do not hesitate to compare the Vypyr 30 with my ex-Line6 Flextone 3: Vypyr is better on the modeling and provides a higher dynamic range at low power, a little worse the effects.
A Vypyr for whom? I'd say it's good for everybody, but the complexity of the animal (in relative terms, this is not a Vetta or Revalver) may cool some. In summary:
he sounds, he has the stomach for its 30 watts, the HP 12 "is welcome, it is not heavy and it's pretty ugly ... the price / quality ratio is outstanding.
