Incident Technologies, creators of the gTar MIDI guitar with LED fingerboard, have opened a new division to port the learning concept to a keyboard.

The new Keys controller is introduced under the new Opho brand. It’s a compact USB MIDI keyboard controller which keys are equipped with LEDs that the beginner can follow and learn how to play with a tablet or smartphone. Advanced user can also use it to control their virtual instruments on iOS, Android, Mac or PC.

Keys is an ultra portable controller weighing only 2 lbs, with dimensions of 320 × 20 × 106 mm. It features 24 keys (2 octaves) as well as sensors that recognizes gestures to modulate various parameters (sustain, pitch…) and transpose.

Inside the device, Opho installed a Texas Instrument 80 MHz ARM Cortext M4F processor and a LiPo rechargeable battery for up to 8 hours of use.

The other particularity on Keys, is that is uses the Amon technology, which allows for magnetically assembling multiple keyboards that will communicate wirelessly.. This way, you can build custom control systems in no time and adapt to your different needs.

Key is available in pre-order and will ship this summer. Pricing ranges from $88 for a simple keyboard to $532 for a 4-controller pack, and you can also choose models with iPhone docks (docks for Android and iPad are also planned). Keys will ship with 2 iOS apps, 20 songs for learners, a gig bag, a MIDI/USB cable and a startup guide.
