Danelectro D-2 Fab OverdrivePublished on 05/06/09 at 16:31
This is a very simple, analog distortion pedal. It's just input and output, quarter inch cables for both. It runs on a 9-volt. No mac/pc editing capabilities, no audio/midi connections, and it's not rackable.

UTILIZATION

The setup couldn't be simpler. It's a pedal with in/output, and three knobs: There isn't too much in the way of sound/effects editing. The manual is pretty clear considering how basic it is.

SOUND QUALITY

This pedal doesn't really sound that great. It sounds like a cheap imitation of a better pedal like the Tube Screamer (which, at $20, it basically is.) It's noisier than most overdrive pedals (which is pretty noisy in my opinion). I used a Fender Strat with this,...…

I used a Fender Strat with this, running it through a Fender Deluxe. It wasn't quite what I expected. It sounded like they were going for a more natural, output distortion sound. The reality is, it just makes your amp a little more gritty and a lot noisier. When added to a distorted channel, it didn't make it sound any better. It just made it, again, noisier. I appreciate how cheap this pedal is, but it doesn't really justify how bad the pedal is. I'd rather pay a lot for a good pedal than spend a few bucks on a bad piece of gear, which is what this thing is.

OVERALL OPINION

You can't beat the price, but you can easily beat the sound. Stick with natural distortion, just by turning the amp up; it sounds better than this. If you have an amp with two channels, this thing is pretty much unnecessary. Some people might think the added push that an overdrive pedal provides is necessary. I personally agree, however, this pedal is not that pedal simply because you'll get more noise than anything else. I didn't have to use this for more than a week to realize that it's not a good pedal. I didn't really like anything about it at all, and it ended up just being a waste of time since I returned it promptly. I wouldn't recommend this pedal to anybody.

overdrive for his blues rock (see above)
greasy and moualleux to perfection
Fully analog
on battery and power supply (9V)
(With a beautiful blue LED on)

USE

volume, tone, overdrive
"Not easy to reach but if done!"

SOUND QUALITY

I use an old Fender amp sidekick 10 and a les paul usa victoria (unknown to the battalion scratch)
recovered microphones mounted with a gibson sg.
0 to 10 it reacts very well
and is easy to find the desired sound.
a fat sound typed 60/70
on the edge of a very heavy rock.

Not what you think ... otherwise used

Analog Overdrive while transistor. Gain, a tone, a drive, nothing but normal. Not heavy, cheap and unpretentious.
A nice blue light that does not spoil the pedal board.
2 Jacks
A switch ... that is not "True Bypass".
It is this feature that makes the whole point for me (or the disadvantage of this little pedal).

UTILIZATION

3 buttons.
They are placed on the back of the pedal, which is not very convenient, but it avoids the unwanted maladjustment.

SOUND QUALITY

First of all, I think this pedal sounds better with single coils than double, with which the sound quickly becomes fuzzy (I have a good US Start and a Les Paul that is not in the least home, I can compare). I play...…

SOUND QUALITY

First of all, I think this pedal sounds better with single coils than double, with which the sound quickly becomes fuzzy (I have a good US Start and a Les Paul that is not in the least home, I can compare). I play more blues, and I'm looking for sounds that make it rather well defined and the expressiveness of the game
Used on a tube amp on the OD channel of the amp overdrive mode, the range is wide enough so we do not insist too much on the drive (it is better to push the volume and reduce the drive). The tone can be shades of fat (I find that happens quite well to approach sounds a little liquid appreciated by Ben Harper when he plays saturated). Otherwise, I find that it still lacks definition, even if the sound is distinctive and it lives (which is a good sign!).
On the clean channel of the amp, it's blah. Draft, artificial, but like many pedals of this type.

Good real surprise is that this pedal is not really "true bypass". It colors the sound even disabled. And then the surprise is that the effect is rather flattering, adding harmonics, much like an Exciter that one is on the clean channel or channel of the amp OD. Actually I use it now to color my sound slightly. I reserve the other OD pedals less fuzzy, and then for the solo parts.

OVERALL OPINION

This will be 3 years that I have. She finds a place in my pedalboard next to a TS9 and a Banzai Fireball.
It's a great value, including the misuse that I do.
Definitely recommended, as I think a lot of products in this range of Danelectro Fab.
My opinion is very positive, but only the prospect of a diversion for use as mine. I also think it can hurt to ring at almost anything ... and that the reverse is also true. But for that price, we have the right to be wrong!

Coveted overdrive sounds in a fab little pedal.

Danelectro puts the D-2 FAB Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal in your hands without wiping out your financial portfolio. History was made in 1975 when a mom-and-pop store in California commissioned the production of just 200 of what is perhaps the best guitar overdrive effect ever. Unlike any other effects unit, that pedal authentically simulated the breakup that occurs when a tube amp is run at full volume. You will occasionally see an original in the stage rig of a major artist. IF you could find an original offered for sale, you should probably sit down before inquiring about the price . . . The Danelectro D-2 FAB Overdrive pedal features Level, Tone, and O.D. controls.

Features
  • Realistic tube overdrive
  • Responsive

The Danelectro D2 Fab Overdrive gives you realistic tube overdrive, responsive and versatile sounds. It's equipped with level, tone and O.D. controls. The Danelectro FAB Overdrive is an overdrive Pedal with the Sound of a tube head.
