Vesta Fire OverdrivePublished on 10/15/10 at 22:07
The Vestafire Overdrive is a rare pedal that is designed for electric guitar. It's in the same vein as a Tube Screamer kind of overdrive. There are a few different versions of this pedal, but this review is for the original. It's got 1/4" connections for input and output and also has a nine volt power supply jack. It's a really compact guitar pedal, so no it's not rack mountable in any way.

UTILIZATION

The make up of the Vestafire Overdrive couldn't really be any simpler. It's just got knobs for level and drive, which I guess is really all you need anyway with a pedal like this. In later versions of this pedal they did add some EQ features, which is certainly nice, but not 100% necessary with this one. I also like the way you press down this pedal to engage the effect, as it's a cool little button. I haven't seen any manual for this one.

SOUND QUALITY

The sound of the Vestafire Overdrive is really smooth and much like the sound of a Tube Screamer. It's awesome for rhythm guitar parts when you want a little bit of that crunch, but it's usefulness definitely goes beyond this. You can't get too many varying sounding with the pedal as it's pretty much just a matter of setting how much overall gain you'd like. I like the settings somewhere in the middle on this pedal as when it's not overpowering it gives you a nice and clearly defined overdrive tone.

OVERALL OPINION

The Vestafire Overdrive is a little known pedal and to be honest I don't know much history on it at all. I've used one of these on a handful of recording sessions at the studio where I work, so I don't own it myself. The studio owns it and will see some action every now and again, but most of time people will bring in their own pedals to use. Definitely jump on the opportunity if you ever do get a chance to check this pedal out or to snab one at a cheap price.
