The Edirol R-1 is a compact solid state recorder that uses microSD cards to record .wav files up to a resolution of 24 bit, 48 kHz stereo with its built in, twin condenser microphones. MP3 recordings and lower quality stereo and mono .wav files may be recorded, but I have only used the highest quality settings which produce very accurate results. The 2 gb card that is included will record for approximately an hour and 50 minutes at the highest stereo resolution. There is a switchable low pass filter that may be set at 40 hz, 80 hz, or 120 hz, or off entirely. There is an 1/8” line in for connecting external microphones and an 1/8” headphone/line output on the other side. On the rear of the unit is a small stand for slightly elevating the recorder when placed on a flat surface. There are automatic record level setting of “high” and “low,” but it's probably best for the user to set the level at manual to adjust the optimum recording level for the material at hand.

I purchased this to do live recordings of concerts. It records a little hot with the condenser mics, meaning I have to set it manually to a recording level of 0. Fortunately, it hasn't clipped on me yet, and having nearly two hours to record is plenty of time for the type of work I'm doing with it. When I received the recorder, I was pleasantly surprised by its compact size, which is small enough to slip into a shirt or pants pocket. It handles recorded sound very accurately and even has some switchable EQ controls in the menus that I've never bothered to fuss with. The battery time is decent, but I'd recommend anyone who purchases it to also buy a 15 minute recharger set for AAA batteries. You will not have to change batteries within a straight two hour recording. For longer recordings, on either a larger card or at a lower resolution, the recorder can be USB powered, such as through most standard micro USB chargers.

It is well to use that I have, principally to record music, indoor, and to dispose of the computer (which allows you to edit recordings, CDs of CRER, re-TRANSFR to my walkman). I was looking for a lightweight and simple to use device. I hsit between mini-disc and portable DAT, but the USB microphone and prsence Intgr who have finally DCID for MODEL. Dictaphone as it can also render services (but it is better not to touch the buttons being recorded when using the internal microphone).

Issue size, it is bigger than a minidisc 2 but really lightweight (200 g). Plutt I agree with other comments on the finish "plastic toy". However, given the absence of both parts mcaniques (disk or DAT), as the recording is done on CompactFlash card, and prsence a carrying case, I think it will last long.

- How long have you use it?
I use the Edirol R-1 for a week. I was looking for a stro recorder for concerts or rptitions. I wanted in particular recording a jazz trio (Piane / bass / drums) dmo to couraging a live quality without having to go through a multi-track recorder.

- What is the particular feature you like best and least?
The points that I find are particulirement INTERESTED:
a. prsence the Stros of quality microphones. I tonn by the quality of the recording obtained with the microphone, and all those who have cost my recordings have confirmed my opinion
b. The file transfer via USB. This is the point that really DCID. Most of the recorders in the same price range do not offer a simple transfer. Here, just plug the R-1 to PC or Mac and a ceremonial volume on the desktop. Just then copy the files on your hard drive.
c. The battery life parat me well. I use Ni-Mh, and autonomy is at least three or four hours.

The point that made me hsiter is that storage is on CompactFlash cards, which are Chres. I bought a 512MB CF card (50 euros), and I recorded the moment in 256kbps mp3. In this format, the recording time is over 4 hours, and the quality satisfies me.
I have not had the opportunity to compare the quality diffrent the format (Wave 16-bit, 24-bit or mp3)

I have not had the opportunity to try other models because there is not REALLY a competitor. Hsit I buy a Hi-MD, but the constraints of the Features and MiniDisc dcourag me.

- How do you report qualitprix
The price is lev, but for comparison, a good Hi-MD score at least 250 euros, and a good microphone around 150 euros. The recording quality is worth the price lev.

I think I would do this choice.
