Hughes & Kettner Edition Blue 30-DFX

Hughes and Kettner has a plethora of different types of amps for any consumer and just about any style of music. The have the biggest multi channel amps and they have the smallest of wattage amps and even some am modeling and solid state. This is one of those amp that is a small watt solid state amp that is a convenient price and does a simple job and getting you decent enough tones for a practice or home jamming.

This amp is a modeler of its own. It doesn't model anyone else amps but just a solid state clean and lead. It definitely has the Hughes and Kettener tone by far. It has digital effects as well and it makes this amp a perfect practice amp for some. This is the exact same amp as the 60 watt version but cut the power in half and you get 30 watts. Basically the same features, tone, and voicing as the other wattage editions.

SOUNDS


You gte essentially the exact same amp as the other watt editions but this one has 30 watts. This amp has a familiar tone that is distinct to hughes and Kettner. You have a classic clean channel which is a good clean for a solid state amp. The lead is edgy robust dirty channel that has a lot of gain on tap. This amp works with any guitar you throw at it. You can use a Fender Stratocatser or a Gibson Les Paul it really doesn't matter too much. The tone is there and it will adapt to what ever guitar situation you put it in.

This channel has enough gain for just about anyone to you. You also have a wattage selector on the amp as well. So you can drop the amp from 60 watt down to 30 watts and then cut it in half again down to 15 watts of power. This a great feature to get even more gain at a lower volume level. This is perfect for those who need to get a good tone and don't want to have volumes issues.


OVERALL OPINION

They have since discontinued this amp so the used market is the only way to go. I would recommend this amp to anyone who needs a simple solid state practice amp and needs some effects built right into the amp itself. That way you don't have to lug around a pedal board of effects with you to practice with. This is an easy amp and it puts out enough volume to play in most band's rehearsals.

And above all it weighs 7kg, which is convenient for carrying around in the subway between two rehearsals.

SOUNDS

My guitar is an Ibanez RGA test mounted DiMarzio tone zone / air area.

In its top is clear, Eq is very efficient and can model funky slap sounds, crystalline medium or soft jazz.
, Pushing the clean channel volume and with a guitar equipped with humbuckers you get a light bluesy crunch dégeu not. The sound is warm enough for a transistor amp is really good.

In disto there are a lot of gain. The grain is not dégeu rather rock / hard rock, Eq doing its office. But overall it is not transcendent either. Putting the gain between 1 and 2 we get a big crunch blues very dirty pretty nice. By pushing the gain to 3-5 was a big rock grain. Sculpting Eq V gives a sound fusion for Tom Morello. By pushing the gain between 5 and 10 we add a ton of gain quite nasty and unnecessary (if you have any mics low output gain will be between 6 and 10).

Playing at home is good. Cranked you could see the neighbors land. To play in rehearsal is limited: if your drummer and bassist are your Marmul it will not pass. For steers with people who type too it does.

OVERALL OPINION

Well I've had with a reduction of 70%. For that price is very good. Without the reductions I hesitated longer ...

transistor, 30 watts, 2 channels, reverb, delay, chorus and flanger. manufacturing quality is really a big point as all products of this German brand. I like the dashboard lights up blue. it's really nice. The Tolex is nice.

UTILIZATION

It's like all the amps tansistor, nothing fancy; The sound is present when it connects. not too heavy. He has really good power for group play (not metal), it will do so without flinching.

SOUNDS

A good sound from the lens, the big beefy well. Good, clear sound as the sound is excellent, as the channel is saturated medium. Of course, this has nothing to do with a tube sound. It makes sense that fans of very big sound will not move to a transistor but the other guitar player (rock, blues, ballads, jazz) can use it without scruple, it will be up. Crunches are velvety, fat or sharp according to your settings. I use it with humbuckers (Gibson Les Paul) and a U.S. Start. It should change the settings for each guitar. Both guitars sound great on this amp (except the overdrive channel, as already explained).

OVERALL OPINION

I've had two years. I had all the lights, the transistor, the Line 6. The whole lamp (Laney VC 30) sold for inoperable at home (reluctantly). Digital is great but it comes back quickly. I read a lot and done research on the net. Given my requirements, I came naturally to this amp. is a good product for the transistor. I do it again without hesitation that choice because it sounds good in clear and crunch.
The ratio / quality / price ratio is rather very correct, a transistor of fine quality, ideal for playing at home.
