EEhhhh not great

Tech 21 Power Engine 60 1x12Published on 09/29/11 at 14:37
The tech 21 power engine 60 W 12 inch speaker and amplifier is a decent little solid-state amplifier. Tech 21 is known for their very great sounding preamp foot pedals mostly. However they do build some decent sounding solid-state amps for the budget musician. Nothing spectacular but there a good little introduction for someone he's just learning how to play the electric guitar. It doesn't have any tubes in it so it has a sterile and processed sound.

SOUNDS

The tone of these amplifiers is a very solid-state tone. You won't have that tube push or distortion that you would get from tube breakup. It's going to be a tone that some people will like over a tube distortion sound but you just don't have that feel and punch that is so amazing in a tube amplifier. So if you've ever spent anytime with the tube amplifier or you play one prominently then this is not to be an amp for you. It's 60 W of power so it does generate a lot of loud volume. It has a few different features but nothing spectacular as in any way shape or form compared to say a Roland solid-state or Peavey solid-state amplifier. You can hook up some effects to this amplifier and get away with a lot of cool sounds when you cook up different pedals to it. Overall it's a decent amp at this price so it's not that bad of a pick up.

OVERALL OPINION

You can find these amplifiers for right around $340 which to me is a little expensive for a solid-state amplifier so I would suggest going with another brand or builder. I preferred the Peavey solid-state amplifiers because I feel like they have a lot more options and more versatility. Play it before you purchase and you will do your self a favor in time and money.

This amp 60 watt transistors is intended to amp modliseurs and saw that there adj HP SEVENTY 80 CELESTION of very good quality so try your modliss amps without HP simulator function, you will understand what I mean ... all amp + HP as perfectly neutral (I compar home with studio MSP5 Yamaha studio monitors) except for the extreme treble what is normal is seen that the HP is 12 inches (Celestion is a reference number in the HP universe's) what I mean is that a speaker simulator automatically eats treble ( its goal is to get your live sound by the sound of your speaker or listening), performing this operation or pramplificateur your amp will ressuscits, the grain is so sought-apparatre, it...…

USE

This one is comfortable 60 watts, it must be the rgler your prampli output levels for best performance, enough power to concerts in clubs and rehearsals with drummer nerv.

rglages the cursors are: Volume, Bass, mdium, Treble, back combo XLR and Jack made or are under the amplification module, all these people is hidden behind the beautiful fa ade vintage of the machine, it is not practical but aesthetic, that said the rglages should do the upstream, it's better ...

SONORITS

First of all it must be said that even low level means a lightweight hum which is same as gnante with transistors and I'm not the only one to complain (c is really not good for my ears), I also find that the stroke of potentiomtre volume is too progressive (that is gnralement a default statement on lamps amps). .. In terms of sonority all depends prampli the example I tried a Line 6 pocket pod entering a lamp prampli 100 Tube Mic Ultragain the whole branch on the between IN Power Engine 60 and the result is interesting, the lightweight heat lamps of this low pramplificateur range has transformed the Pocket Pod, the sound became more transparent and full of the harmonics of an amp lamps like okay (because it is not always the case).

NOTICE GLOBAL

In conclusion the highlight of the Tech 21 PE 60 is its neutrality and its dynamics for all transistor, the comparison between tube amp and transistor amp seems to me as barren-controlling harmonics is central for sound good in general and the Power Engine can not do miracles this is to not also what is asked, it restores the honest fawn sound is d j not so bad.

For the report QualitPerformances / price I would put 10 to use 8 because of rglages the rear (not practical) for the aesthetic I put him on his 10 and 8 because of the hum. Personally I find that the amp simulators lacking in dynamics of general, but with a prampli Soldano or pedal V Twin Mesa comparison is not possible because it is more in the same GRADE.

PS: I think the comparison between transistors (Listen to a Roland JC 120) and lamps is deprecated nowadays and it must stop be a consumer of rumors, you mfiez the Net, the best is to try and listen to you even, it all depends on your tastes and especially your needs, the rest is pure mercantile illusion.

UTILIZATION

First observation: it's made in the USA, it is quite heavy, but it is very sturdy and well finished ... The other side is the side that you do not combo a stroll with power amp + cabinet.
60 watts are actually there, but the beast also works well for use at low or very low volume apartment. The active EQ is effective.
on the other hand, not bad breath and background noise, even being careful about electrical connections set by this trick here but only to a certain extent (it reduces much without deleting).

SOUNDS

An ideal device for ringing simulators (pod, VOX TONELAB ...) or preamp ...
Nevertheless, celestion seventy 80, coupled to the structure of the machine open back gives something quite pinched, bright, a bit dull ... I hesitated to change the HP, before selling the vehicle and move to a solution of a 44 + EHX Orange Cab closed

Anyway as I personally liked a pod 2.0 and a POD HD, but there is still more musical and more "full" for my taste.

OVERALL OPINION

Kept two years, I have been generally satisfied even if I found better since.

Despite his two or three flaws, it's still good stuff, practical, solid, inexpensive in Cygnus (and who sells it!)

his previous propio was used with a tube man Hughes and Kettner

UTILIZATION

Lightweight, portable, solid manual unnecessary.

reproduces what he branch source preamplified guitar (or not but it sounds vintage.

Purchased to plug a boss me 33 multi effect at that time the boss of JC120 simulation (the only one I 'group was using) is found in magnified.

then I offered him a ToneLab SE and a vamp arrival

SOUNDS

nickel it sounds, it took me a year to understand the ToneLab but since it seems even more essential because if the source is good it breaks, it is dynamic.

the equa in the back is very convenient but it is not made to be constantly thrashing, personal she could correct between my headphone and the REPEAT group presets done at home ..... at the end I retouched more than the preset volume.

Sounds good at low volume

OVERALL OPINION

I almost buy a 2 nd

I plugged it in with the ToneLab split in the loop of my Blackstar, it sounds and AC buzz and not with a stereo effect is hot: it's as good as the power stage of which has a HT5 fi-inspired lamp circuit it seems.

I put both a 3/4 of its power well we got on the other side has his guitar and JCM900 .... that was rather my fingers lem .... lol

if I should sell an amp I will sell faster my Blackstar HT5,
