Audient ASP008

The Audient ASP008 is an eight channel microphone preamplifier.  The unit has both ADAT connections and XLR inputs.  It also has 1/4 inch inputs in the front for each channel and will only take up a single rack space.

UTILIZATION

Using the Audient ASP008 isn't hard at all even if you don't have much experience with mic pres.  Each of the eight channel has knobs for gain and filter (frequency for the low pass) as well as a variety of buttons including for phantom power, instrument line, mic line, phase, low pass, and a pad.  It is nice to have everything covered as not all preamps have this many options.  As long as you have a basic grasp of what parameters on a mic pre do, I don't believe that you will need a manual.


SOUND QUALITY

The sound of the pre amps on the Audient ASP008 are quite good overall.  The sound they have can be described as clean and since they versatile pres they can be used for all sorts of applications.  I have found that it is the perfect unit for recording a full drum set since there are so many channels to work with, but is also great for acoustic guitar and other acoustic instruments.  The pre amps do lack a bit of girth that I look for to record vocals, but overall they get the job done in a variety of situations. 


OVERALL OPINION

In my opinion, the Audient ASP008 is the perfect unit to expand your audio interface.  It is great for those home studio owners who have ADAT capabilities on their audio interface and are looking for more mic pres to record more tracks at once with.  While I would normally shy away from something that has so many channels in one for such a reasonable price, the ASP008 is definitely better than a lot of its competition.  If you are looking for 8 channels of good sounding pres in a mid level price range, the Audient ASP008 is for you.

Preamp rack digital good, very functional without being complicated. It is limited to what can be imagined: low cut, pad, 48v, etc.. Note that only the first two entries have the full functionality, including direct input jack in front, so if you want to complicate your life with 8 channels directly on your preamp, you will not, but in the studio with gear behind and other direct inputs, I never felt the need.

SOUND QUALITY

No Colour, which is exactly what I'm looking for this stuff.

OVERALL OPINION

Nickel preamp, I spend most of the ASP008. Do not look for color, of course, with a beast as digital, I go for it anyway in a UAD Solo 610, but everything else is usually plugged into the All-Hearing (except micro tape, I spend another preamp). It is true that I had early dismissal because he had some hics, but it works for 4 years without any problems. It was connected to a Tascam FW 1884, and now on my Fireface 800. cheap, but I can not imagine working without.

UTILIZATION

Config simple but trs "srre", the knobs are "key-key" impractical and yet I have not lumberjack hands ... LEDs of the switches are also close trs, has made dialeddie (crosstalk led, has said a??)
No VU meter, signal and clip prsence.
English manual clear if you read English.
Machine easy to use gnral.
I like the design and the quality of the product.

Why not have done this in BCAN 2U, t it would have much more enjoyable ...

SOUND QUALITY

I test several types of recording mics diffrent rputes marks, without more than a m'taler I think the sound is good trs is a pr MAPLE trs well made, no "color" notorious pramplis trs discreet.
Only problem: race knobs linear, so for the gain, you must type in the limit of the knob (from 40 in general). Gnant not really to the extent there is no noise (breath) at the end of the race because prampli are good.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for more than six months, I have no converters numriques optional
I like the design (did not everything, but good) the quality of prampli the price. If not for what I like less is said in the comments: no insert, knob trs near zero change impdance, race pramp linear.
I try a lot of prampli, it is really among the best in its sound quality

UTILIZATION

Simple, plug it sounds. However, it must have cable db25 to XLR or jack to connect the I / O line converters / sound card.
The 1U form factor is perfect for travel, save lives without having to carry huge racks. Save 16 tracks ADAT has never been more compact and reliable.

SOUND QUALITY

Preamp transparent without being aggressive. No background noise, even in settings with high levels of gain. It is definitely in the top of the range. I save a lot of violins and other acoustic instruments that can quickly become shrill and have not this problem. Nothing to do with integrated preamp card entry / mid-range.
I have not had time to test different impedances, since the difference is minimal sound of condenser microphones that I use, for against that should be interesting for ribbon microphones or dynamics.

OVERALL OPINION

Use now for a good year for acoustic instruments of folk / traditional.
I love the clean and fair restitution, no frills: It has what is played. The dynamics are well respected.
I love the compact size makes it easy to carry around the can.
I recommend strongly to all those who want to record 8 tracks clean easily
